As far as I am aware Kensais do not wear armour because it is too retrictive on the abilitys that make the Kensai so great. But what about some of the magical leather armours like the Studded Leather of Thorns, with an AC of 0 and a weight of only 5lbs? the lightest armour in the game as far as I am aware of. It's no heavier then the Robe of Vecna and I've seen suits and work uniforms that weigh more then 5 lbs, so how could something so light hurt the Kensai's fighting ability? I'd imagine if a Kensai came across such an armor they'd probably use it.

Well, Kensai's don't use armors, gloves, bracers, etc - no armors at all. Of course, 5 lbs ain't much though that's the way it is. When me and my friends play P&P games, we sometimes have some Kensai-like classes, and we use small armors, like a pair of thin leathergloves.

The Kensai is so powerful, so if he could use armors, he'd be more demi-god than he already is.

I've never taken a Kensai before because I've disliked the fact that you can't wear armour. But does this apply to all armour or just some of it?

Pure Kensai's cannot wear any bodyarmor, no gauntlets or bracers (except the Monk gauntlets from the Underwater City for some reason). Your armorclass is as good as any fighters anyway, so it's no serious setback. You other skills more than compensate it.

Of course, there is the old trick of just dualing a kensai at level 13 to a thief. The kensai can then use armour and missile weapons, once 'use any item' is taken.

Well he can use the robe of vecna/archmagi if he becomes a mage :) .

Armors despite weight have other restrictions. Fact is if you're wearing leather armor, even just padded, you have a limited amount of upper body movement, because you're wearing inch thick animal hide.

Robes on the otherhand are meant to be used as clothing which is loose comfortable etc. Make you feel naked, but good :p , so it's totally reasonable a Kensai could use them ;)
