Kensai/Mage

Discussion in 'BG2: Throne of Bhaal (Classic)' started by Metalhead9038245, Jun 3, 2002.

  1. [IMG] I gots ToB and i was wonderin: wit the experience cap removed, what level should i dual my kensai to a mage????

i want to get some level 9 spells(3 or 4 if possible).

    plz help!!!!!

  2. First help your getting is: Read the Faq.

Second, if your wanting a definite Mage character, Id advise dualing at Lvl 13 - 16, you will have alot of hit points, and have grandmastery(if you so choose) in a couple weapons/styles possibly.

    Indeed, welcome.

But don't play that munchkin K/Mage, play a perfectly legit multiclassed fighter/mage. You'll be able to wear some sweet elven chain, and get some nice fighter abilities in Throne of Bhaal. A good deal all around. And with that XP cap removed, you'll get the L9 spells, too.

  4. Thanks for the replies but I just want a simple answer. What level shoudl I dual a Kensai to a Mage at so I can have some level 9 Mage spells but still be a powerful Kensai?????
I am definately going to have a kensai because i already started my game and got a 94 roll, i just want to know the level to dual at.
    Thanks

[IMG] Metalhead9038245, your username is too long, it stretches the table layout in 800x600.

Go to http://www.sorcerers.net/cgi-bin/ubbUserName.cgi and change it to something shorter. This is not a recommendation, it's a request; if your next reply does not come from a shorter username then this one will be locked down. You can use spaces in usernames, by the way.

  6. Metalhead, I did answer your question, if you want a specific lvl to dual at choose lvl14. You will gain a lot of hitpoints, have as many points in the things you want, and get to lvl 27 as a mage, you will get mroe than 3 or 4 9lvl spells, and several HLA's

    Thanks for your reply.
    Changed my name,
    Thanks again.

PS. By Level 14, will i have enough proficiency slots to have Grand Mastery in Katana's and 3 slots in 2-Weapon Style????

  8. IIRC, you will, with the 6 * you get at the start of the game, I beleive you gain two more between the start and 14, and if its one or two levels higher, not a big deal.

[IMG] Technically you can get Kensai-21 (3,250,000 xp) before dualling to Mage which will get you to Mage-22 (4,500,000 xp). This I can't recommend.

My recommendation is Kensai-13 (1,250,000 xp) then dual to Mage where you can reach Mage-28 (6,750,000 xp) and get four level 9 spells daily.

I don't recommend getting Grand Mastery(*****) because the benefits are too small. I'd be satisfied with Mastery (***) in any weapon skill.

There are several factors you should consider when choosing the level to dual at:

    - How long will you have to play with your first class inactive.
Only you can say how much patience you have.

    - HP's.
Fighter type characters recieve 9 HD, so after level 9 the gains are very small.

    - THAC0.
For every level until level 20 (or perhaps 21, I can't remember) Fighters get one better.

    - Weapon proficiencies.
    Fighters get a new proficiency at levels 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18 etc

    - Increased number of attacks/round.
Fighters get another half attack per round at levels 7 and 13.
(Since I haven't played the game for some time I'm not 100% sure, but they should also get them at 19, 25 etc.)

    - Saves.
This is IMHO a fairly important part. IIRC you get a big boost to your saves at level 13. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong here!

Earl Grey is right. The saving throws of a fighter type character take a really big boost when leveling up from lvl 12 to 13.

    Death -2
    Wands -2
    Poly -2
    Breath -3
    Spell -2

As you see dualling at level 13 will give you very good saving throws +4 to hit, +4 to dmg from the Kensai bonuses. The only problem is that you should reach 1,500,000 XP in order to reactive your Kensai abilities.

A tip to gain a lot of XP when you dual a Fighter to a Mage is to collect all the scrolls you find and when you dual kick everyone out of the party (tell them to wait right here) and scribe all the scrolls.
