As the topic says, a group of high school football players were kicked off the team for showing up late for practice after giving blood. They came in a little late for the practice, and the coach told them that they were off the team, and that their football careers at that high school were over. They later were re-instated, after the public outcry that ensued, but they lost their starting positions. All I can say is WTF? Is this coach not the biggest jerk you've ever heard of?

The coach tried to sugar-coat his reasoning, by saying he was trying to teach them discipline by saying it was unacceptable for coming to practice late. You could almost accept this reasoning if he didn't know they were going to be late because they were giving blood. But he did know. In fact, he saw them giving blood and gave the custodial staff orders to empty out their lockers before practice. What a jerk. Your thoughts?

EDIT: And um... I just realized I failed in my intention to place this in The Collesium section.

    Ah, I love stupid people.

He is quite the jerk and just because he is a football coach doesn't give him the right to punish his players for doing something right.

    Three things:
    1. The coach is a son of a **** who can't admit he made a mistake. By the way, did I read correctly, is the superintendent a chicken? He's protecting the coach!
    2. Lawsuits? C'mon people, fire the coach, make him pay
    3. The other team members didn't want to be kicked off too, so they didn't say anything. [irony] What a lovely team spirit [/irony].

Well, they were late for training. It's a big harsh to kick them off the team, but you can't be late for training. It doesn't matter whether they were giving blood or just finishing their tap-dancing lessons. If I was ever late for training when I played for my football team, my gaffer would take me to one side and give me a rollicking, bollocks to what my excuse was.

I dunno the rest of the country, but at my school after giving blood you aren't even allowed to participate in practice that day because it is dangerous to your health(the exertion can make you dehydrate faster, and faint iirc). Thats the rule for most of the schools in my area, and in washington, PA where the rest of my family lives.

Last year during baseball season I gave blood and the principal said that I couldn't participate in practice because of it, and that there could be no repercussions for it,not that my coach is such a dick as that.
