You know the kids who ask you to buy them swords and ale in the Umar Hills? Is there a way to finish that quest? I bought them their swords and ale, and it still says that the quest is ongoing, not completed. Just wondering...

yeah, you can find them in the mimic cave about a day later i think. They will be attacked by a different enemy depending on what you gave them.

Don't do the quest if you're a ranger.

Really? They're in the mimic cave? I never bothered looking for them there. I always do the mimic cave quest, although I suppose that I give them their stuff after I do that quest. Since I assumed I was done with the mimic cave, it never occurred to me to go back there. I take it the fight in the cave is not too hard, but the challenge would be to win the battle without getting the kids killed in the process. (Like launching a fireball into the battle would probably do in the kids too.)

One more question. Is buying the kids swords and ale considered "evil"? I mean, judging by the comment of "don't do the quest if you're a ranger" - which I'm not - implies that it would be an evil path. Unless of course it just means you don't get your stronghold. So, are the parents of the children still angry with you afterwards, even if you end up saving them from the attack in the cave?

It's not an evil act, but certainly an irresponsible one and not exactly "Rangerly," if you will. Rangers are supposed to be guides and role-models to an extent, so giving punk kids swords and beer would certainly not reflect this very well. As far as I know, feel free to do it if you aren't a Ranger. I always give the kids swords, but no beer and I always play good alignments. You may get more experience for NOT giving them the swords, but I've never done it so I don't know.

Even when I was a Ranger I did this and still got the stronghold, so I don't know what Chev is talking about. It may be one of several factors that can endanger your recieving the Stronghold if you're a Ranger (the Madulf situation, etc.). It also may be something fixed with ToB or a patch, but all I know is that every time I've gone through as a Ranger, I gave them the swords and was fine. So I wouldn't worry about it.

I think if you give them both swords and ale when you're a Ranger the town is pissed and doesn't want you as a protector any more.

If you give them just swords (like I did), they're angry, but everything is forgiven when you save them in the cave. I don't know what happens if you give them just ale.
