Hands-on: Kingdom Come: Deliverance II - Gamescom 2024

It's time to jump back into medieval times with, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II. The deep RPG returns with a sequel and is shaping up to become everything fans want it to be. Let's sharpen our sword!

    Authentic

The moment the demo started, it's clear that this sequel will once again deliver authentic content. The developers at Warhorse Studios have clearly doubled down on their commitment to historical accuracy. The landscapes are as breathtaking but the demo put me right into a vibrant medieval town that was packed with things to discover. Every aspect of the environment feels lived-in and real, from the muddy roads to the humble village huts and impressive town buildings. The level of detail in the architecture, the clothing, and even the mannerisms of the characters feels researched, ensuring that the game doesn't just look medieval, it also feels it. Of course it's not a pure simulator but it does offer a nice look into those times.

This immersive atmosphere is further enhanced by the game's dynamic weather system and day-night cycle, which affect not just the visuals, but also gameplay. During my quest I had to go steal a sword, which could easily been done during the night. Once you change to night however, you have to be more sneaky and watch out for the guards, really altering the way you approach the mission.
