hey is there any mod in existance that allows you to kit multi-class because i think it'd be kool to have a kensai/assasian or a priest of talos/avenger or a wizard slayer/sorcerer (lol, that last one sounds fun to play with!). Im not really into that whole "Shadow Keeper" thing. Im kind of a perfectionist and if you started say a fighter/thief then edited it to a kensai/assasian you'd have to change the thieving percents and the attack rolls, then deal out the right amount of abilities...etc. Plz help me with this.

Afaik there is no such mod. The way things are originally, a charecter can only have one Kit. So in your case using Sk you still would only have a Kensai/Thief or a Fighter/Assasin.

Shirkant is right. With Shadowkeeper, you can assign one (and only one) kit to a character. So, you could, for example, have a multiclassed Kensai/Thief or a Fighter/Assassin, but not a Kensai/Assassin.

You could always just dual class (but only the first class gets a kit) if you wanted to go by the rules.

There IS a workaround for the dual-classing with two kits...

For illustration, I will use a Kensai/Assassin as an example.

Start off as Kensai. Dual-Class whenever you want to.

Immediately open up a save in SK and change your kit from Kensai to Assassin.

Voila! You are now a Kensai Assassin. :D

For Multiclass...it depends. For instance, if you REALLY want the advantages, then you could save right before leveling up at key points and change your kit, for those level ups, then change it back to the other kit. For instance, with the same example as before...only with a multiclassed Fighter Thief...

Start as Kensai/Thief MC. Before hitting lvl 18 (where you get x6 backstab), change ur kit (as mentioned above) to Assassin, get the extra multiplier, then shift back to Kensai. Again, repeat at lvl 21.

This can be done with pretty much any multiclass, but with spellcasters, it has to be done at EVERY single levelup, which is a PAIN to say the least.

Depends on how badly you want to cheat. ;)

lol, well how 'bout this? non race restricting duel classing! any race should be able to duel class, it makes no sense that they cant. a dwarf can in his life decide to stop stealing for example and go into the clergy. i think that duel classing is racist and evil ;)

Dual-classing isn't racist! On the contrary, it's Affirmative Action for humans. Every other race can multi-class their little hearts out, but can humans? NO! Case closed. :p (Though it does really seem backwards considering that the more short-lived humans are better suited for multi and the longer-lived demi-humans are better suited for dual.)

By using Creature Maker, you could change multi-class to dual-class or vise versa (which is not possible by SK).

but really if you think about it...anybody should be able to duel class or multi class to thier little hearts content. its the same with pure classes in general. if a dwarf lives his whole life outside in the woods why cant he be a ranger?

I think you want 3e/3.5e rules then.

Humans get the dual class ability because from the start of DnD, humans could advance as any class and to any level. The demi races always had restrictions to their levels. I remember being taught to take an elf M/T, since an elf would be the highest level of magic-user for that multiclass.

yea i know what i crave is a little 3E but i've played IWD2 and other 3E titles. Trying not to go too far off topic I just wanna say 3E rules is kinda newish in D&D pc games. (by newish i kinda mean older then bg2) 3E games have a history of horrible plots. I was just thinking that WITHIN 2E RULES THEY SHOULD HAVE INCORPERATED REASON. my father always said "if your going to do something do it right the first time." didn't the whole duel-classing multi-classing stupidity clue into them. had they no imagination? or is it all just a "development" sneakyness...ness?

Within 2e rules, only humans are allowed to dual class and demi-humans (elf, dwarf, halfling, halforc, gnome and halfelf) are allowed to multiclass. I'm sorry you don't like the rules, but thems the breaks. :heh:

In my previous post, I explained why this is to the best of my knowledge. If it's that much of a problem, you might want to fiddle with Shadowkeeper or something like that to change your character..

Kuemper is correct. In fact, IIRC, it was only the thief class that demi-humans were allowed unlimited leveling. As such, there were certain races that were preferable with certain multi-classes. As keuper stated, most M/T were elves, as elves were allowed to be higher level mages than other demi-humans. Similarly, dwarves tended to be F/T as they were able to reach higher fighter levels than other demi-humans. I think only half-elves were allowed to be clerics, and had some pitfully low maximum level - like 7 or something like that.

unlimited leveling only counted in certain classes for certain races in second edition. It was an optional rule but it played a part in the multi-classing dual classing argument.

The Demi-human races had limits so they were given the ability to continuously learn in multiple classes and they basically made up for their level limits by having more classes they could concievably max out.

Humans however had to sacrifice their origional class and have the innate ability to work in their new class. Having shorter lives they could only study one thing and if they really wanted to do a new one they had to give up the old one.

Another thing to remember in this argument is that they took into mind things like the tendancies of the demi-human races like the Elves temperament towards magic meaning they could raise a lot higher in it while dwarves were warriors and so they raised a lot more in fighting classes.

I feel old now but back when we played these they did have what was felt as valid justification for things for the time. And if we didn't like them. This was an optional rule and we just justified it as being that Demihumans with their longer life spans had the ability to study and understand a lot more and adventure a lot longer than their human counterparts.

Now in third edition I hear you can take levels in Paladin then switch to Ranger and then learn mage and it's just like. This doesn't fit with what i understand of some of these classes who were totally dedicated to what they did and this just plain sucks to me. Why won't my precious second edition Gods Smite down the fool who wavered from his Holy Warrior Path? So the road does go both ways.

And in time the kids will think that the way we do things in our games today just had no real basis or common sense to why we did them.

Just give me a miinute to bask in the light of you wisdom starwalker.

I think you make a very good point with that paladin, ranger, mage thing. how could somebody juggle all those together? it makes no sense. however i do disagree with the part about humans only being able to do one thing in their short life times. you can accomplish alot in 65 years.
and being a thief should be easy to juggle with anything. stealing doesnt require much dedication.

    True, true :)

Hey. I didn't say it was good logic. But with half the life spans of basically anything else you do find funny justifications for some things.

As for thieves. Just stealing stuff is a misnomer. It's the hours they spend studying traps. Devising new ones. Understanding the inner workings of locks. Testing yourself against examples of security if you belong to a particular guild. Propper techniques for weighting that bag of sand and seemlessly switching it with the coin purse. The ammount of work a good theif put into their art is sorely misunderstood from an RP standpoint. Back in my table top days we had thieves that invested as much into RP justification for advancing their art as some of our Mages did in theirs.

But then It became a whole lot less hack and slash and weighing the numbers so I came out Advantageous when I teased one Fighter player about having the easiest job in the world and anybody could do it and he went into a half hour long diatribe about learning the intracacies of weapons. New Stances and styles. The Propper Responses to Enemies the truely fine art of balancing a shield between protecting yourself and not interrupt your fighting and retaliation. It was very enlightening on what he put into his character for what I thought was a basic fighter. That's when I stopped looking at it just as numbers and what was most advantageous and I started thinking about how to use things and the true motivations of my characters and everything. The Game quickly became a lot more enjoyable and a lot less about combat for me.

It is funny hearing about Races level restriction. If I am correct in the 2E DM guide you levle restriction was also based upon your prime requiste. If you prime requiste was higher you were able to advance in more levels. I wish they would of incoporated the level limits in BG2. It would make many of us think about who we take along for the adventure and who we select as our PC.

yes. Your primary stat controlled it if you implemented this optional part of the game. As much as like 4 or 5 more levels at the highest of 18 or 19 in natural stats for the most basic races from the player's guide.
