[IMG] I was at home this weekend and I played BG2 immensely, and my DS just hit the 15th level, which automatically triggered a nasty encounter. Knights of Dark Renown. This is a component of a mod, Tactics or Imp. Battles. Basically, some cool-guy slaughtered (I mean it) innocent children most viciously, and me, being the the do gooder and evil punisher, challenged him to death! He teleported us to a safe place and me and his little party fought.
    Me:
Druidic Sorcerer Lvl15, with GOOD mod items, and a very versatile spell caster!

MP created F/M/T:Originally he was a F/T but I SKed a little to add some flavour. He is lvl11/12 in each class. Dual-wields Dakkon's blade and Belm+2.

Jaheira Lvl 13druid, a bit higher lvl of fighter.
Uses the +5 club Pitchwife. (made by combining Gnasher and that acidic club)

Vicky I SKed her to a versatile F/C and she is tough! Uses FoA+3 and Monkey's Paw+3

Minsc and Boo lvl14 ranger, uses Larry.

Well I have so many mods and I played on insane, but this fight is soo hard! Who are the enemies?

A fierce kensai as the leader, uses katanas who stun like CF. Fast and furious.

    A tough berserker guy.

A wizard slayer who goes for casters, dispels magic per hit and adds a miscast penalty.

A high level monk he has good MR.

Two mages capable of casting Time Stops continously with all nasty sequencers given to them thanks to Tactics.

An archer guy. Does damage fast.

A thief, who goes invisible and back-stabs, it is a one hit KO on insane.

Plus some nasty summons, like an air elemental and a few skeleyon warriors.

Now as you see they are numerous and way too high level to defeat! And I play on INSANE, it is impossible to defeat them, I managed to kill the kensai but others are just too much, thief backstabs and kills somebody, wizardslayer dispels everybody who has protections, berserker goes in for the kill, while Kensai stuns all with his fast and furious katanas, mages go berserk with Horrid Wiltings, archer targets un-protected casters, monk stuns with his fists, and air elemental&skeletons do not make the situation easier. :wail:

I tried and tried and tried, they have healing potions too so they take eons to kill, (Well I have a mod which gives all enemy creatures MAXIMUM HP) but they kill somebody with 2-3 hits. (on insane, they do 40-50 on a hit.

My best bet was to cast Dolorous Decay on the kensai to slow him down, (it slows down even if the save is made) and then my DS casts A PI which uses a TS scroll (taken from COOL female lich in docks) and unleashes 2 Horrid Wilting scrolls on the crowd, which makes them 'injured' or Badly injured' but they just gulp healing potions and well...

How can someone defeat them on insane? Did you do it?

After nearly an hour of frustration, I did this:
Everybody in the party except DS rushed to the kensai, which took them by suprise and by the time I read my Time Stop scroll by myself, (not image) he was Badly injured. Time Stops. ALL of the dangerous enemies are packed together. My DS rushes, releases a Greater Malison, then reads TWO Horrid Wilting Scrolls(one from Planar SPhere apprentices, one random drop) to the crowd. But I know this is NOT enough, so final act: I release a spell trigger I casted before from a scroll for emergency, THREE deadly skull traps! TS ends, GM affects the enemies, Horrid Wiltings hit, and skull traps explode violently, adding a sweet 45d6 damage! Though they did hit my comrades, Jaheira was protected by Belt of Innertial Barrier and gulped a potion of magic protection, F/M/T had mirror images, Vicky's natural MR protected her while Minsc was killed. (sorry Boo!) BUT this attack killed the Kensai, Wizard Slayer, Thief, Archer, Berserker, Air elemental and injured MR monk. My remaining fighters quickly wasted the poor monk. It was too quick, they died soo fast. Two mages was dangerous BUT F/M/T's experienced eyes pierced their deceiving illusions and when Breach spell hit them they were as good as dead. :shake: After the battle my DS ressurected Minsc and Boo via rod and kindly apologized. :)

Unfourtunately I wasted a Time STop and two HW scrolls. Oh well I am a SORCERER afterall, they are just luxury for me.

Did I do the right thing? What else could you think? Did you beat them HOW? I really do not know how I could beat them without scrolls and a Spell Trigger.

This is indeed a very difficult fight for a 15-level party.
Another way to win this battle is trying to divide the enemies. When you first get teleported in the area and after Samildanach's speech, drink potions of invisibility and immediately move your party (have to be hasted too) out of the enemy's sight. They won't have the time to dispell the invisibility. Then go to the north-east corner and try to attract them 1 by 1 there. The mages usually remain at the center of the area so after you kill the fighters you can kill them with cloudkills.
And of course have true sight activated because their assassin has septuple backstab and on insane does >170 damage/hit!

Also since this encounter triggers when your PC reaches level 15 and only if you are in Athkatla there is a way to avoid the fight for some time:
Just be sure to level up at level 15 in an area outside of the city (f.e. Druid grove) and then go to a part of the city you won't need to visit
for some time f.e. Graveyard. When you arrive there and see the little boy leave immediately before he speaks to you. This way you can gain some levels and return to the graveyard later to begin the quest.
I did this when I was soloing a fighter and it was the only way to win that battle.

Wow! Are these the same 'Knights of Dark Renown' from David Gemmell's book 'Knights of Dark Renown'?

Ahh, it is! I never knew David Gemmell was such a popular author, that people would make mods about his characters.
