[IMG] I was wondering how levelling up applies to x/p in BG2, as i had saved my game just before my 16 con Monk gained enough x/p to level up. i loaded the game, killed a ghast and levelled. gained 2hp. reloaded, levelled, 2hp. repeat several times, always 2hp!! i thought con 16 gave +2 hp per lvl? and hp are randomly assigned? tried the same thing with jahiera later - always 1hp?? But she has CON 17!! in BG1 you could save before levelling up and "reroll" until you got a good result... is this to stop that? Or is it a bug??

i am running TOB with latest patch, banterpack, unfinished business and ascension, this is my first time through the game and i am in chapter 3, so if i can get a fix now it might not be too bad. Can anyone help!!

After level 9 you only ever get +2 hp per level for a monk IIRC. Basically in 2Ed DnD the hit dice rolls end around level 9. In 3Ed DnD you get hp every single level. So you are only meant to get 2hp and no Con bonus at this point. Don't panic, its doing what it should.

No, they even made it easier since if you take the normal difficulty, IIRC, then you automatically get the maximum roll when leveling up.

No its on easy, difficulty that you get max HP. I usually start a game on easy, then set it to normal, so I start with a decent amount of HP.
In easy you also cant fail to write your spells, so only if I write down really important spells, I put it to easy, rather than quick save-reload a few times

@The_Swordalizer: Khazraj got this basically right here. If you look in the back of your manuel, you can see the HP progression for each class. Levels 1-9 (1-10 for Theifs, Bards, Wizards & Sorcs) give you a Hit Die roll, and this is the only time you get your CON modifier. After that, you are gaining a set number of hit points each level up, usually somewhere between 1-3 depending on your class.

@Cromw: Actually, you're wrong here. At Normal difficultly, you get full HP on level up, you automatically write Spells, and creatures do 3/4 damage. The ONLY different between Normal and Easy is that in Easy Monsters to 1/2 damage. You can actually see this right in the explanation when you adjust the difficulty slider.

[IMG] Doh! oh yeah! its been a while...

if I dual class do i start getting proper hp again? does this mean a dual class character gets more hp than a pure class? Monks can't dual class if i remember rightly.
    :(

No, when you dual class you get no hp's until you regain your first class.

eg. if your a lvl 13 fighter then dual to mage, you would not get any hp's until you were a lvl 14 mage.

    Yeah, Monks can't Dual Class.

And if you do Dual class, the HP you gain depends on where you were when you Dualled. If you started with, lets say, 7 levels of fighters, You're getting D10 plus your CON modifier per level there. If you then Dual to a Theif, you won't get any HP for the first 7 levels, then at levels 8,9 & 10 you get D6 plus your CON modifier. After that you get 2 HP per level up, period. If you wait to Dual class until 10 levels of fighter, then once you hit 11th level Theif, you simply start getting your 2 HP per level up.

Also, remember that your CON modifier gives different amounts of bonus HP, depending on your class. Non-warriors only get +2 HP from a CON 16 or better. However, a CON of 17 or 18 will give a warrior a bonus of +3 or +4. Again, this is all during your initial level ups though.

Oh yeah, one last thing. The reason Jaheira was always only getting 1HP is because she's multiclassed. A fighter would normaly get 3 HP per level up and a Druid 2. Again this is after their done rolling dice for their level ups. Since she's multiclassed, when she levels up one class she gets 1/2 the normal HP. This is why you are only seeing 1 when you level her up, even though both her classes should provide more.

    Hope this covers everything!
