Ok, I visited this site today and found out that now there are several games that work on Linux, even though they had been intended for Windows. So, is there any other similar kind of emulators out there, and which Linux OS should I give a shot? Debian? Lindows? Knoppix? RedHat? These to name a few...

If you're new to Linux then definitely go with Mandrake, I strongly dislike any RH past the 7.x series. And VMWare is definitely the most powerful emulator. BTW, yes I'm aware that Mandrake was originally based off RH.

Well the beauty of linux is the options. For a truly new user i recommend either mandrake or Demo linux. Mandrake 9 Is easy to install but you should do some research on boot problems if you choose to dual boot on large hardrives. Demo Linux runs straight off a cd allowing a user to learn about linux and see if they like the look and feel of gnome and linux (makes all the fancy buttons and start bars).

For window emulation vmware is nice, you can get a 30 day trial copy, but the full version is about 200 to 300 hundred dollars and it has problems with hardware acceleration (stoping most game play), plus you still need to install windows. Other options are wineX and so forth but they all have problems.

RedHat or Mandrake, or Debian it will be then. I just don´t know the good and bad sides of them. Any hints?

Don't go with Debian for your first install. It's not hard to install but it doesn't have very good compatibility immediately post-install for some hardware.

If you go with RedHat definitely get an ISO pre-8.0 because the latest releases of RH have been quite bloated out-of-the-box, and even with a minimalist setup they've been pretty slow.

If you go with Mandrake, go with an 8.x install if you can. 9.x releases are fairly poor.

    Just google for more info.

It isn't that long ago I started playing with Unix and tried some linux versions(?) but found that FreeBSD is pretty easy and got a nice site with help.
