[IMG] I am a newbie to this forum but have enjoyed SoA and ToB for a long time now.
I recently downloaded the following modules ; Tactics,Ascension,Solaufein,Valen and Item upgrade to add some spice to it.I have played the game with every combo of characters and it doesnt challenge me any more.
The same cannot be said of my computer which continues to mystify me! Having downloaded these modules I cannot install them ,I keep getting the same message :

ERROR : Unable to find DIALOG TLK. in:dialog.tlk
Please run this program in your Infinity Engine game directory. FATAL ERROR: Failure<"Unable to find DIALOG>TLK">

I can't unwrap the downloads to install, or locate my Infinity Engine game directory obviously! My PC is not a dinosaur , just me. I would greatly appreciate it if some Computer literate gamer could post some simple , easy to follow instructions on how to proceed, or if not,at least tell me what the issue is.

In order to isntall any mod you *will* have to manually move all the needed fiules (i.e. with ascension that would be "ascension" folder, setup-Ascension.tra, and "setup-Ascernsion.exe") into your main directory (iirc ascension is a self-extractor, in which case you will have to redirect the install path to your BGII main directory). Weidu can *only* find your dialoge.tlk if it is in the same directory as the one in which you are running the installer.

Hi, samuel, welcome on board

olimikrig is right. The "Infinity Engine" part refers to the game using the Infinity Engine you are about to apply the mod to (BG2, in this case). You need to have the installers for the mods in the folder where Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn is located, before you run them.

If you don't remember where Baldur's Gate 2 was ìnstalled on your PC, right-click on the shortcut you use to run the game, then click on Properties. On the screen that pops up, you'lll see a button that says "Find Target". Click on it, and a window showing the BG2 folder should open. Copy the mod installers there, run them, and you're on your way.

The default place for Infinity Engine games is C://Program Files/Black Isle/ followed by the name of the game. :)

Thanks you guys , I just got it up and running and .... lol I wish I hadn't!
Talk about impossible ; 4 little 7th levels with no equipment, and very little magic , not being able to rest and I havent even made it to the library yet!!
When Minsc gets 'minced' one on one against a spawned duergar you know you are in trouble. I figured I would sneak past the 2nd patrol (the maze before the library)and get the sewage golem to let me out the top so I could find some magic items to help but didn't count on the neo-otyugh!
I never really found dolorous decay to be that useful when I employed it (a slow spell is much handier and doesnt cost a 6th level slot) but it really bites when you get hit with it. I see that this will be a long game lol.

Hehe... glad to help, and best of luck with your game (you're going to need some if this is your first run with tactics and ascension ;) ).
