I heard that there was supposed to be some bow that allows you to add your Strength bonus to damage. Where can I find this item?

    Thanks, in advance.

Stuntman, such a bow does not exist within the basic IWD2 game. However, it DOES exist within the Light of Selune mod.

The bow is called the Greenbow, and can be purchased from the new merchant in the Wandering Village.... but only after you've done a mini-quest for him to get a special bow-string he needs to complete the bow.

But be warned ... it is only usable by good-aligned rangers who are human, elven, or half-elven.

Thanks for the quick response. I guess I won't be needing it since the only character who can use it is a melee type.

No prob, Stuntman. There are a number of other nice bows and crossbows in LoS. IIRC, there's an ammo-less short bow, and a repeating crossbow that is not limited to only 1 atk/rnd. It will do as many atks/rnd as your character normal has, IIRC.

I don't have the LoS mod. I am aware of the special crossbow that allow multi attacks and got it in my first time through. Ammoless short bows do not sound interesting as I already have returning arrows. I was simply hoping that I can take advantage of a bow that adds Str bonus to damage. Since my archer cannot use it and the only character who can is my front liner, I won't be needing to get it.

Is there a reason you're looking for a bow in particular? Ryo-whatsisname's Left Hand of Darkness is a +5 sling which adds STR to damage, and you can use it with a +1 Returning Sling Bullet of Flame... for a character with high STR, that makes it even better than the Mithril Arc bow (which is +6).

I was just at a particular point in the game where I thought I could get this bow as it sounds like a pretty good item. I'm currently swapping between my magical bow and sling depending on the situation and what types of ammo I have available. I have stunning arrows, so am using the bow at the moment. When I run out, I may switch back to the sling as it adds Str bonus to damage. When I run out of the best ammo, I switch to the next best combo of weapon and ammo. I haven't got to the point were I can get that sling ammo yet.

BTW, speaking of the bow in the Light of Selune mod that supposed adds the STR mod to damage ...

While playing the Windriders party this past weekend, I looked very carefully at the damage produced by the Greenbow, and I am not at all certain that it actually is adding STR bonus to damage. First of all, it's not being listed on the character's screen for potential damage with the equipped weapon, even though the STR bonus DOES show up when a sling is equipped. Also, my ranger used the Greenbow for long enough that I watched the damaged produced numbers on screen, and it just doesn't seem like the STR bonus is being added, though I couldn't say with absolute certainty one way or the other.

This makes me very wary. I don't like having items or effects that I cannot prove conclusively are working properly in my mod, so I'm considering making some sort of change(s) to the Greenbow (and its HOF equivalent)... change(s) that I know and can prove are working properly.

I take it that the LoS patch fixes the sling so it actually shows the Str bonus to damage. I don't have that patch and for years did not realise a sling added Str bonus to damage because it did not say so when I checked the character. I just recently found out that slings do add Str damage and confirmed it by observing the damage done on the status line.

Sorry, Stuntman, my bad. I thought that I'd remembered slings showing STR bonus damage, but I just ran a test and I was wrong. However, I did confirm that slings were adding STR bonus damage in battle testing, regardless of what the character's weapon info screen said. ALSO, I was able to confirm that the Greenbow IS adding in STR bonus damage, also regardless of what the character weapon screen said, and in spite of my earlier fears... I guess that the Greenbow doesn't need tweaking after all...
