I'm currently playing a Berserker who will dual class to Mage at level 13 (I'm currently level 11).

Other than kicking out my party members (other than Jaheira, who I'm romancing) and then memorizing as many spells as possible, what tricks can be used for some quick XP gain?

    TIA

Well, you can complete some quests, and leave the rewards till after you dual.

yeh, what has already been said is about all I can think of, except for the odd occasion where during a quest, one option yields more EXP than other.

For example in the De Arnise hold quest, killing Glacius is 9000 EXP, but if you can successfullly cast domination on him its worth over double. 18750 err, I think.

And when you get to Ust Natha you can always just hack and slash your way out, instead of just running for the exit, like most strategy guides would tell you to do.

Could always install some content adding mods, like UB or quest pack. they add a bit more EXP.

Rotate non-romance NPCs, boot out someone other than Jaheira, pick up say Keldorn or Korgan, and do their quest, then bounce 'em for you orginal NPC.

That or when there aren't any guards around go butcher a few bums/townpeople, then donate to a temple to get your Rep back up.

Higher difficulty doesn't offer more EXP in BGII right? Insane will give the same EXP Novice does right?

bums/townspeople don't really offer that much xp. Guards and Cowled Wizards are alright through.

IIRC there's an experience penalty for novice, but not for normal and above.

I reckon leaving a few quest rewards undone (such as freeing druid grove and killing the raksasha, but not talking to the mayor/claiming the reward) would be a good option. High level spells are always a good option (the higher the level the more xp you'll get).

All in all a low level mage won't be too much of a drain on the party, he'll have decent hp and won't be going into mellee anyway (a lvl 1 warrior is a lot more of a liability than a lvl1 mage). He'll still be able to wield high level mage items (think wands, scrolls etc) and should be powerful enough to be helpful.
