[IMG] What's the lowest mark you've ever gotten on an exam or assignment, what subject, and why (and any other incoherent wafflings you'd like to put in besides)?

Mine is probably the toolbox I made in woodwork last year, a C-, though since then I'va failed to complete every woodwork thing I've been given, so maybe they count.

    [IMG] Lowest mark accepted...

"i" from my final exam in swedish. That's right; it failed, but my other exams compensated it (2 magna's :D ). So, that it the lowest mark that I have got and still passed. :shake:

Guess was it some party after that.

I failed micoreconomics in undergrad...Which, incidentally, led to my being kicked out of undergrad. I spent too much time partying, and too little studying.

I actually think it was one of the best things to ever happen to me though...I went back, earned my degree plus two minors, then went on to graduate law school...Not too shabby a comeback, eh?

I've failed several tests, got a few fail marks for not being prepared and got several fail marks for forgetting about a homework. There's a borderline pass mark on maths on my final certificate from highschool, but that was personal. He was the headmaster of the whole school and I was the president of some initiative he didn't really like (but we were part of something grander, with special government care and internation contacts - very important for the school's PR ;) )... and he literally hated the secretary whom he *almost* kicked out of the school in the witchhunt (I was very direct in describing certain mechanisms during the improvised defence I provided to him and slaughtered the class patron's arguments and my involvement in the backstage was public knowledge)... and thus we had sort of office war. Official papers, signatures, seals. That wasn't the only thing in which I was involved and at some point I started getting 1's (absolute fail) for 'illegibility', for drawings being below analysis and not on the right, for diving a square paper in two columns etc etc until there was enough of the 1's to make up for the good marks I had - and I mean good. My trial final exam mark in maths was the best one in my class. The funny thing was that he said he would give me a C (which would be my lowest mark on that certificate, anyway) if I got a good mark on some special test he had... But I sensed evil and didn't take the chance. It was a good move... Two other subjects followed the pattern, but the difference didn't exceed one grade down, so I wouldn't achieve anything. The 'conduct' evaluation got lowered to neutral (ie not causing trouble), despite special promises they all were making when they needed my help with computers, documents, events and stuff. No reasons were given and it quickly became covered by a thick layer of mist ;) . Just one teacher (patron of that initiative I chaired) revealed it to me in a brief one to one conversation that it was the class patron's job (who claimed she defended me, but the cause was lost). I would have won in a court (this was seriously considered), and had enough tales for local journalists (my also troubled friend's idea, and his father was one), and people were already getting interested (many other students, their parents, other teachers etc), but I would have had to take some dozen exams before the authorities and lose a year on all that.. and then maths grade wasn't important for my future studies, nor was conduct. The funny thing is that the evil headmaster had to hand me the second best final examination certificate (A with big, big honours ;) ) personally in front of whole school together with awards I got  :shake:

I never got less than a B in primary/secondary school. It was simply unacceptable.

As an undergrad, I dropped Quantum Physics before failing it, and my parents were convinced that it was the end of my college career. I came back to get an A the next semester.

In grad school, I squeaked my way out of Finite Automata and Compilers with B-/C+, respectively. I understood the basic concepts of FA, but the teachers exams were a complete *****. Applying the principles to prove something wasn't hard, but I couldn't get the hang of the contrived assumptions you had to make at the beginning to make the proofs work. And as for Compilers, well, the instructor was horrid. We had a series of assignments that built on each other, and we didn't find out until week 8 (out of 10) that out first assignment was all wrong! Jackass.

Let me see if I can convert danish grades correctly. I once got a 03, I think thats an f, in a biology test. It was about genetics, and I wasn't in the mood, so I based my answer on Jurassic park.

My lowest grade in an exam was a 5. Thats the grade just above f. Still its failed. It was a spoken german exam, and I forgot to read the rules correctly. I therefore ended up without any notes, whereafter I panic and just stares into the wall for 5 min.

I failed advanced physics twice - twice!!

Not sure why I took it in the first place, but I know that sleeping in class (it was at 8am) was a large problem for me! (Damn parties)

I can't remember exact marks but mine would have to have been on one of my many grade 7/8 wood working, art, or home economics sewing projects.

I have almost no artistic ability and I have never been very good at working with my hands on detailed work. As a result, the majority of my projects looked absolutely hideous and received the marks they deserved. I imagine that the worst mark would have been on one of my art projects as the art teacher was never one to give out marks based on effort, only results mattered to him.

I would have gleefully destroyed all evidence that these projects ever existed but my mother would have none of that. To this day she keeps the god awful looking things in her keepsake chest along with a selection of some of my perfect tests and assignments from my more academic oriented classes.

I got 19% on a math mid-term last year. I'm horrible at math. I get 80's in my other subjects, but that's about it. I get 60's in math.

    Grades are so demeaning. :(

11th year in school... Ehh... School?
I had my first class 08:30 every day, but never came to school before 12:00 if I came at all. So I failed all the classes I had before lunch except for math which I got an A in cuz the teacher said we´d get the grade that we got on the final test. I´ve always had a thing for math :)
Although, that was the funniest year in my life. I had about $400 to live on each month, and atleast $350 was spent on alcohol. It was insane, there was a party every day and I just had to go to all of them :)
Well, the school didn´t really want to keep me since I only showed up 5% of the time. But hey, I´m working and making money anyway so I just saved me a year of useless education.

Anyway, before that I never had anything lower than a C.

Advanced Organic Chemistry in graduate school (yeah, I'm a chemist). The instructor felt that even though we were becoming chemists, he already was a chemist, so that he made the tests extremely hard, so that no one could do well on them, and then curved them so we all wouldn't fail. On the first exam, I had a 36% - which turned out to be a B-.

When I was doing physics at university, one of my colleagues managed to get 0 out of 25 in a multiple choice test. The odds against achieving this score by mere chance were 250-or-so to 1. He was bloody thick, mind, so I don't think chance came into it.

In an important thing, would be final exam in English last year 48%. Mainly because I hated the teacher, and he hated me as well. But that was a fun year. The teacher use to send me and my friend outside for talking so we just sat in the sun and talked out side

Other than that I've got lower in some unimportant things. Small things like woodwork in year nine, and spelling tests ( :D ) but like I said, they're unimportant.

I failed Maths in high school, like my sisters. Oops its genetic!

And I failed a lot of subjects in undergrad, probably the most spectacular being a subject called "Marxism in Asia". I still wonder why the hell I even bothered, so geeky I nearly spewed.

But there always seems to be a silver lining, and I got a Distinction for my last assignment. (Warm fuzzies)

In grade school, I didn't fail anything. My definition of bombing a test was like 75% or lower.

Undergrad is a whole new story. First year was ok... basically I got high school marks that is down 10%. Going in I aimed for 80% and that's what came out pretty much.

Second year... the year where the drop out rate is highest... is where I started failing. I knew that going in, so I aimed for 68%. But a lot of marks where lower. Let's see, where to begin...

Linear algebra assignments: Routinely failed them but they're homework so not worth as much as exams or midterms.

Vector calculus I midterm: Got 33% My first significant failing grade. This really puts failing homework into perspective.

Thermodynamics final exam: ~30%... final mark scaled to 68% because it was an honours class.

Now I'm in third year, and very much accustomed to failing stuff. So even when I fail assignments or midterms (which I still do regularly), it's no longer shocking me as much as that first significant fail in the math midterm.

I've got one horrible mark coming in soon from a recent Electricty & Magnetism midterm... I only did one of the three questions somewhat decently, but then after solutions were posted, even that one question I messed up. So stay tuned for what I suspect to be my new all-time low...

I failed religion in grade 9. That's when I lost my faith, methinks. I also barely scraped a pass for most of Maths Enrichment during grades 9 and 10. Other than that, HSE. Last years teacher was a bastard. Failed me for an assignment that took me 2 weeks. I gave the same assignment to a mate and he got an A+. Go figure.

I got a G for German way back for my finals at school. Later I failed Chemistry and Biology at College with a big fat 'unclassified' stamp but pulled back the next two years when I realised my strengths and got A, B + C in History, Classic Civilisations and English. In the words of Arabwel - 'Go me' ;)

A 'fat' 10% (the lowest possible in our country) on many french tests.

48 % for one of my physics exams last year.

I'm just not good at, I really don't like it and I don't think it's worth studying really hard for. (no offence to all the physics fanatics out there :p )

    Languages all the way! :D
