mage levels, dc's and feats?

    [​IMG] OK. Two questions. They've probably been answered elsewhere . . but hey, you know you like typing things twice over...(??sorry??).

    Why is it worth getting as many mage levels after level 20 . . ? tell me again.
    I used to think that it influenced spell dc's but was rudely awakened when I read a post on the Bioware site. Level of the mage doesn't influence the DC. So is there any other reason I should be trying to get as many mage levels as poss? I'm sure I read it somehwere. . . overcoming spell resistance? Is that such a big issue??

    After level 20 when are the feats available? Is it as it was in the lower levels, every 3 levels, plus at every 5th if you're a mage?
    The reason I ask is cos I was looking at the exalted sorceress build on the bioware site and they give her a single feat at 21st level then two feats at 24 th level, 27 th level and 30th level.

    Spell resistance check is SR versus d20+Mage Level.

    If I recall correctly, that is the only spellcasting-related change that high wizard/sorcerer levels do.

    Spell DC then again is 10 + Spell Level + Spellcasting stat modifier. (So, 10 + Spell Level + Intelligence Modifier for wizards). Spell Focus improves this.

    The wizard gets standard bonus feats at epic levels, which may or may not differ from pre-epic wizard bonus feats. Do not mix wizards and sorcerers though. Sorcerers don't get pre-epic bonus feats.

    It is worth getting levels over 20 also because your caster level influences spell duration, damage dice etc. For instance, Mestil's Acid Sheath does 1d6 + 2*caster lvl damage ... Horrid Wilting does caster lvl d8 (up to lvl 25) damage, Fire Arrow has a similar progression with an extra arrow every 3 caster lvls.

    So if you are a serious Wizard/Sorcerer it is in your best interests to take as many levels as you can in order to ensure that your spells have the most effect.
