[IMG] A simple question, do magical arrows do extra damage in the game? I think they should, for example, an arrow+1 should do 1d6+1 damage, based on my P&P knowledge and it is like this in all other games (IWD, IWD2) but here, in my game, it only confers +1 THAC0 bonus, and does 1d6 damage. Even the most powerful +3 arrows do 1d6 dmg. But bullets do extra damage, ie:bullet+4 does 1d4+5 dmg.

Why not arrows? Is it a houserule in this game, or is it a bug, or is it due to my various mods, if so, which? Thank you.

It's merely a mistake on the description; the arrows do actually do the extra damage.

Silverstar is right. Magical arrows don't inflict extra damage and I agree that they should. This seems to be a bug in the original game (it has nothing to do with mods).

I honestly don't know. In BG1 for the majority of the game my characters use either unenchanted arrows or arrows of fire/ice/biting etc. I have seen the extra damage from those arrows. With a +1 arrow, I never noticed if on average I was getting the one additional point of damage.

In BG2, I hardly ever use arrows, as most of the NPCs use some missile weapon other than bows, or I equip them with thrown weapons.

It's easy to check them in DTLCEP or IEEP. In BG2, magical arrows inflict only 1d6 and no extra damage for their magical enchantments.

Actually, I checked it with IE, and it says they do.

Although it seems terribly incredible to me, is it possible that there are more than one version of the game available in the market? Perhaps more people should check the arrows in an item editor to test this possibility.

Just one point for those who want to check the arrows' damage bonuses: Make sure that you do not mistake the THAC0 bonus with the damage bonus. (Magical arrows do grant THAC0 bonuses)

Using IE, there's no extra damage to see in my version... strange

Well, after looking at my arrows I've come to the conclusion that the only arrows that add a damage bonus are Acid Arrows. These appear to do an extra point of damage in addition to the acid. All the others do the basic d6 damage regardless of enchantment.

    Thanks for verifying this, Shaitan!

I will add fixing this flaw of the original game to my "to do" list for the next release of IA. (As you know, IA includes a fixpack as well as other things.)

In an unmodded, patched game Arrows +1, Arrows +2 and (the logical extension of the sequence from the Expansion That Must Not Be Named) are all consistent--they grant THAC0 bonuses only, and their descriptions agree with this.

Baldurdash doesn't change this, and I know we wouldn't change something like this in the BG2 Fixpack as it's pretty clear this is intentional on behalf of the devs.

edit: And for those curious, this is not the case in BG--Arrows +1 and Arrows +2 included damage bonuses, and their descriptions reflected the added damage.

Can someone do a test please! Get the 'kai' ability, I REALLY don't care how, and then just do a test with normal and a variety of enchanted arrows and get back to us :D I would do it myself but, you know :p
