[IMG] ok, so i had SOA installed, then i tried to install ToB. at around 76% an error message about a "Cyclic redundancy error" (which means what exactly?) suddenly pops up and disrupts the installation. Now My SoA is ruined too, so i have to reinstall it. But the damn uninstall option is gone so i manually deleted all the SoA files except the save folder. but everytime i run the disk, install refuses to appear, it keeps saying "play" which is obviously impossible. could someone throw me a bone over here and help me out please. heh. what a pisser...

It's been my experience - perhaps it's just my imagined theory - that CRC errors are most often caused by overparanoid copy-protection methods. I don't know if BG2/ToB uses any such protections, so it might be that your disc is bad. If it doesn't have obvious scratches that you gave it, and cleaning it doesn't help (take a very soft wet washcloth and use strokes from the center outward, never circular, and dry it thoroughly), you might send it back to Bioware.
I've had this problem with my Warcraft 3 disc, among others. It's just bizarre, and some newer CD's just don't seem to behave with perfectly good older drives.

ok, thanx guys, but as a more immediate concern, what do i have to do in order to be able to re-install SoA? bec everytime i put the disc in, it keeps showing the "play" option even though all i've left behind in the SoA folder is the "save" folder.

dont use the autorun feature. When you put the disk in, go to the CD drive and select to run setup manually. This should get round the problem.

Still doesn't usually work. Interestingly enough, I just did system restore to the point before I installed it, or reformatted my hard drive. Figured it was easiest.

System restore often times works, but at least in my computer sometimes it can cause a few more problems or not fix the problem completely
