Minsc's true self

    I've just had an idea.
Mthinks Minsc should have been a barbarian in BG2. He has all the requipments - free berserkering spirit, high physical, low mental ( :)). BG1 just could not allow this...

No, he's no Barbarian. He has style and that's impossible for a barbarian :)

I agree, Minsc doesn´t fit in th berserker scheme - he´s too much just a deranged ranger :D

I think he was supposed to be a berzerker in BG1 but they didnt have that class there. The warriors from rashemen are berserker warriors and no rangers.

If he was supposed to be a berserker in BG1, why make him a ranger then and not a fighter.

Good point, Minsc could just have been as well a fighter with his innate "rage" ability ... so why didn´t they choose him to be one? Because *he is* a ranger?

I think the reason they made him a ranger and not a normal fighter/barbarian is because Rangers love animals, etc just like Druids, and I think this tied in with his personality towards Boo and the "evil squirels".

They made him a ranger for he has a ranger-tribe-sign on his head and with soap they couldn't remove it :)

I agree with Herr'Don rangers being known as animal lovers gives minsc the fit, rememberhe didn't fall off his rocker till the witch he was protecting died. thats when he turned to... *dramatic pause*... a hamster, yes a hamster, meaning rodent, an animal, not another person, not a deity, but a hamster, which only a ranger, all be it a deranged ranger, but none the less only a ranger would do.

Minsc, I think, was one of those characters who was the closest result the creators of the game had in mind when they were in the development stages. I mean c'mon, how many times did you give old AD&D characters traits and/or personalities that were unusual just to make them unique? the background and personality traits were one of the things that allow a player to individualize his/her character. I, for one, thought Minsc was one of the most potent and fun characters in the game.

I definitely agree that he's loads of fun, but he was probably put there simply for comic relief. Everything has some sort of humor in it now, and the humor in the bg series is simply minsc. you just gotta love him

Minsc, Minsc, Minsc, there are SO many things you could say about Minsc, but you gotta think about something, what if there were no minsc. would the game have been even half as popular? I think pretty much everyone has Minsc in their party because he's just to good and fun to leave out.

[IMG] I agree, i never kicked him out of my party, i personally think the game would be a bit boring without him and his hamster and jan keep on picking on that hamster so he can pet it lol :)

yes... they just wrote so many special things just for him, with characters and npcs, so I think the gmae would seem much more pale without him!

About that point i have 2-3 7th level spells for my priests.... Start unloading firestorms!!!

There is also the shield of balduran... where the lazy beholder slayer can just sit back and let them kill themselves.

    You brought it back, so...

Ranger has to be wise in the ways of.. ah, well, all the ways he crosses :).
Minsc. Is he wise? Minsc will lead with blade and boot! Boo will take care of the details! 'Tis not a though of a wise person, nope.

There are countless examples that show Minsc as a simleton to the least of it. His wisdom score: how much lower it is than the ranger's prerequisite? Minsc behaces like a lowly monster, even a good one. Lilarcor and him are a lot alike. But is Lilarcor a ranger? By the gods, no! The fact that Minsc has a hamster in his pocket does not mean that he is in unity with nature. That proves that Minsc is not smart, being so dependant on a hamster.

Drizzt is a ranger. Even Valygar is a ranger. Minsc is a barbarian!

    End Rant :)

minsc is a proven ranger, he's great with the bow has good people to animal skills and is wise in the way of nature. if he were a barb he would have eaten boo as a snack by now, no minsc is a ranger who couldn't handle his faliure to protect his witch and cracked that is all

We dont know if he has good people-to-animal skills; If we are to assume that people-to-animal skills depend on either charisma or wisdom of the 'people' part, then, nope, he has none of those skills. He surely does not have good people-to-people skills.
When he hears of the trouble in Trademeet, he argues about 'killing innocent animals', without considering the 'people' part, and rangers' duty is to protect people.

He is good with the bow.
Mazzy's better with the bow, but she's no ranger. :) Skill with the bow is not a criteria of being a ranger. Drizzt is a ranger, and I can recall him using the bow 3-4 times during the 3 trilogies about him, while his whirling scimitars became a legend.

Wise in the way of nature
Cernd is wise in the way of nature, whereas Minsc's wisdom is in that Boo likes the forest (or is it Boo's? :))
If he was wise in the ways of nature, he would have understood that animals beseiging Trademeet are driven there by some force, alien to nature (as in evil druid sect).
Can you imagine Minsc casting a spell?

He was cracked before the failure with Dynaheir (she was a fine lass, to my thinking, pity they could not let her in BG2 :(). His stats in BG1 were lower than in BG2, and his spirit changed not.

Why would he eat Boo if he considers him a Miniature Giant (think of it) Space Hamster. Barbarians are known for worshipping animals and thinking of certain animals as their kin/friends. Minsc's choice is Boo, a hamster, while others' choice might be Jack the wolf and Mike the remorhaz :).

You still would not agree? :p :p :p

[edit] Do not take me wrong! I don't say that Minsc is a bad character, he is a big part of this game's charisma! I just say they got his class wrong.
