I felt nostalgic tonight, my wife was out with friends, so I picked up a bottle of Jack Daniels (been 18 months since I last had Jack) and I sat and (this may seem sad) sang along to the DVD of Les Miserables 10th Anniversery, havent done this for so long, but this kind of thing was always something I loved to do... before I got married and took on alot more responsibilities...

    anyone else relate to this?

This is not meant to make anyone envious, but since getting divorced, I've focused a lot of my attention on doing the things I used to do and missed.

#1 - Hang out and party with the boys. A perfect example was this past weekend...Me and one of my buddies made a mini-road trip up to Evanston, WY to buy booze and fireworks. I had just gotten off of a 12 hour shift, and on a whim, I sent out a mass txt asking if anyone wanted to go. Ryan said yeah, so I swung by his place, and off we went. I finally got back home in the wee hours of the next morning.

#2 - Mt. Biking. When I was married, I couldn't just go out and blow $700+ on a bike...and if I did, I'd have to blow another $700+ on a second bike for her. Well, when we were separated, I went out and bought a 2010 Raleigh Talus 8.0...because I missed riding a bike. :D

#3 - Eat a whole dill pickle. She hated everything about pickles so much that they weren't allowed in the house. Growing up, I used to enjoy eating a whole pickle that was pretty damn near ice cold. :yum: I've got a jar of pickles in my mini-fridge right now...
(Yeah, yeah, yeah....I said 'eating a whole pickle'. Enjoy yourself Splunge...) :p

#4 - This one is actually something I miss about being married and living in our own home....I miss being able to run around the house butt-ass naked right after a shower. The best was when we'd take a shower together, and then run around the house naked. My sig is a tribute to such fun activities.

#5 - Having MUG material 4-5 times a week. Kitrax is lonely. :aww:
    (I've got a 2nd date in 2 weeks with a chick I really like...here's to hoping!)

#6 - Being able to blast my music, movies, and games at full volume & bass with my snazzy 5.1 computer speaker system. Mom and Pop don't like the sound of 'Amon Amarth - Death in Fire' or 'Pantera - Cowboys From Hell' piercing through the walls when they have their Mormon home teachers over.

#7 - Wasting a full 12 hours playing PC games. I currently have a game of DAO in progress (hence my lack of activity in that forum), I've also got Mass Effect 2 and BioShock 2 that I haven't even had a chance to install...oh, and StarCraft 2 is nagging at my wallet. I just don't have the time. :bad:

I wouldn't mind having a week "off" and I really mean off. No work, no responsibilities. Perhaps lots of heavy gaming. Getting caught up on some of the many movies I haven't had time to watch. No setting my alarm in the morning. Just a week to do exactly what the hell I want when the hell I want to.

    I can dream....

I used to love being able to go to bed without having to get up in the middle of the night to pee...

[IMG] I miss fencing, but I'm beyond the ability to get back into it. Even if I could run again the atonia and shoulder dislocations can't stand up to it.

I miss being able to play my music loudly. Used to be the only thing keeping me going was being able to listen to my music, on one side I've got more to keep me going now, on the downside even Kev notices I'm happier after listening to some metal, but I always feel like I'm forcing my music upon him then :shake:

I miss having friends nearby, when I started university all my friends scattered about the country, globe in some instances, I never lived in the same town as most of my friends as my mother would get me into the best school available, which was never the nearest. Yet once a week at least I would visit my best friend, for fourteen years I would visit my 'brother' every single day, at Bournemouth uni I'd get to see my friends I made there, at the uni I'm at now though... when I broke up with Sal the group excluded me, obviously so. The next year I had uni once a day so nobody really wanted to talk to me or work with me. Kev has friends in the area but they're a car ride away, only friend I have who is in the area semi-regularly is an ex-boyfriend so Kev doesn't like me visiting him on my own.

I also miss having rooms to a house! Living in a room with an en suite bathroom and a small kitchen tagged on as a formality is pretty depressing. I'm pretty sure prisoners have more room... and a lot less stuff.

I miss my 'cello. I used to play in an orchestra and play at home 4/5 times a week for a few hours. I don't have the time to do it anymore :( not that I would change anything now. I loved learning to play new instruments but I don't have the time or the space now. Being a grown up sucks sometimes!

I have a girlfriend who stops over 2-3 times a week, and I see her 4-5 times a week. During that time I can't do any gaming or anything like that (although she does like playing Forza on my Xbox 360 for some reason), but to be honest I'm not bothered about gaming when she's round the flat - better things to be doing :-).

What I most like doing is having a quietish session with the lads getting slowly drunk and having a massive laugh. Some of my mates are like stand-up comedians, they crease me up. The gf does let me do that, provided it doesn't clash or overlap with times I'm meant to be with her. If I forget I'm meant to be taking her out for dinner and agree to go for a pint with the lads instead... PHEW, get ready! She'll have the pap on for hours about that.

I do have a pretty good mix of things at the moment, as it's not very serious with the girl, so I can get my jollies off regular and still do what I want to do a good chunk of the time. There's nothing better than being able to have a mammoth 10 hour gaming session on a game you really like with nothing else to worry about, when you're serious with a girl that's so hard to find the time for...

I miss pulling an all-nighter gaming session. Just can't do it anymore, getting too old and too much responsibility. And for that matter, I miss pulling all-nighter drinking sessions as well! For the same reasons...:)

Yes, definitely. I've recently bought a bottle of brandy precisely because I've always associated it with special events since my late teens. It did feel good.

One of the best nights I've ever had was when me and Rob lived in our first house. It was a really crummy terrace that was only held up by polyfiller and the houses on either side. There were holes in the window frames and all our furniture was second/third/fourth hand...a proper first house!
Anyway, one night we bought some £3 Baileys knock-off stuff (about 4 bottles of it), played time-splitters 2 on the PS2 and got lathered. Then decided at 3am that we should clean out the hamster.

I miss my childhood. Not having to worry about things like money, romance, work and all the other adult things that make life so much more complicated and stressful.

    Errr...

I'm probably going to regret this, but how exactly does one clean out a hamster? Is there a little hamster enema section in the pet store? Are there hamster doses of Ex-Lax? Does one go brute force with a pipe cleaner? Just wondering if the hamster survives the last one . . .

[IMG] Oh gods that poor hamster...

I miss having pets, and a garden. Living in a city really has reflected on how much I miss it. Have a small rose plant in the bathroom, not allowed pets though. This is the longest I've been without being able to sit in a nice garden with at least grass in and not had an animal around to keep me company, even if it's just a grumpy Danny staring at me for hours on end.

It's really affecting my dreams  as long as Kev and I don't go overboard and end up with a menagerie.

I miss travelling and fighting, used to do battle re-enactment around Britain but the cuts and bruises take too long to heal these days, also cash flow is a pain, either I am working and have no time and plenty o cash or no cash and too much damn time, sigh.

I miss Jack Daniels ... but then I go home from work and am reunited. What a wonderful life.
