Moeken, I couldn't find you email from the details here but thought you would see the stuff if I posted it. The following are a couple of example references as promised in the chatroom last night. Ideally, the person asking for the reference should have given some indication of what things are appropriate. If not, just write something based on the situation that you know the person from. Hope it's useful.

    EXAMPLE 1:

I have known ??? for the last year. He has been a Masters level student at the University of Warwick and I have been involved with the supervision of his project & dissertation in addition to lecturing on his modules.
I have found ??? to be an intelligent student who has been capable of working on his own initiative. His time management for the project has also been commendable as demonstrated by his ability to finish early. He tackled the project with enthusiasm and produced an interesting dissertation as a result. He has shown a good understanding of business management and the importance of people within the business.
His understanding of English, both written and verbal, has also been higher than most students in his position.
I have no hesitation in recommending ??? to any potential employer and I believe he will do well in his future career.

    EXAMPLE 2:

I have know ??? since October of last year. I was involved with ??? as his academic project supervisor duirng the time he was enrolled at Warwick for his MSc. The project that ??? undertook for me involved investigating succesful small businesses to identify common traits. In particular he was comparing these small businesses to the ‘visionary’companies identified in the book ‘Built to Last’ by Collins & Porras.
At the completion of the project ??? produced an interesting dissertation that included some useful findings. He also made a good presentation of his results to the examiners and achieved a creditable mark.
From my experience with ??? I would say that he is a bright individual who shows initiative and is capable of completing the tasks that are set for him. When he is interested by a project he will show much enthusiasm and effort but, sometimes, his interest has to be carefully managed.
On a personal basis, I found ??? to be a personable student who mixes well with his peers and seniors.

Thanks Slappy - That helps plenty. It is actually a reference letter addressed to the Canadian Securities Commissions for a friend who recently wrote the exam.
