[IMG] I’m about to create a monk. How important are intelligence and wisdom? Thanks for your help. :)

Wisom is of medium importance since I think you need it for some powers like quivering palm while intelligence is utterly useless.

Wisdom is useless as you can't cast divine spells
Intellegence seems to have some bearing on saves vs death but other than that I would never max them. I haven't played a monk for ages though, so getting more help is a good idea.

Quivering Palm is a melee attack, so Wisdom doesn't apply I don't think. I always try to get good Intelligence and Wisdom scores because it affects your saving throws vs. spells and magic. Also, from a role playing perspective, a monk should be very wise.

I maxed out intellegence in SK to see the benefits - at lvl 7 my character had saving throw for death in the minus (forget what exactly). So it has to be Intel that effects it, even worked for Imoen when i edited her Intel.

Wow! Thanks a lot, guys. This is more feadback than I was expecting (I actually figured 1 reply and that's it). As far as saving throws based on wisdom, I remember an old thread on the Boards which suggested that even thogh wisdom is supposed to affect the throws, it doesn't. Any info on that? And I never realised intelligence affected saving throws; thanks, Malovae! However, it appears that a monk doesn't benefit from high Int or Wis any more than any other class.

On a side note, I never realised that a monk has to be lawful. Since I have a personal rule that, if a party has a lawful leader, it can't steal, I'm going to have to get my gold "legitimately". I'll definitely have to pay more attention to my stronghold than I usually do. ;)

[IMG] I've not encountered this strange notion that Intelligence modifies saving throws before and I'm quite sure that it doesn't.

Wisdom should modify some saves, but AFAIK it doesn't.

I just tried to do it again and the saving throws aren't changing. It may have been a bug but I've never heard of it before. I just thought it was normal. Well anyway, I guess its its gonna stay a mystery then  :o

    Sorry guys, my bad.

If I were playing a Monk again, I'd focus on Dexterity (in the early stages of the game, you want to avoid being clobbered), Constitution (no higher than 16, but the HP bonus is worth it in the early stages). Wisdom is nice (it SHOULD affect some saving throws) but since he doesn't have to learn spells (INT) or even get bonus spells for Wisdom, I'd focus more on Strength -- even though he's not a fighter, he can still get bonuses to damage and he can carry more stuff, too.
