Monks and Wisdom?

Discussion in 'BG2: Shadows of Amn (Classic)' started by The Amazing Ooopah, Jan 11, 2001.

  1. [IMG] How exactly does having high wisdom help a monk? I know their listed as priests, but what does it actually help???

I'm pretty sure it has no more benefit than it does for Fighters. While Monks are technically types of priests, they do not use Wisdom like other priests do (spells), and they actually weren't included as priests in AD&D 2E (3E made them priests). AD&D 2E required Monks to have a minimum Wisdom score to reflect their inner discipline (and BG2 may also recognize that minimum when you roll the character's scores; I'm not sure), but the Wisdom score had/has no real effect on the character's abilities.

Except as for all classes for lore (the more int and wis you got the more lore you get initially).

But this should soon change. In NWN, expect Monks to recieve a bonus to their AC based on their "wisdom modifier". They get both a Dexterity and Wisdom bonus to AC. At least they do in p&p 3rd edition. For BGII though, 3rd edition was not fully integrated, as it was not complete.
