I saw a very interesting program on Discovery last night. It was a documentary on the conspiracy theory about the Apollo Moon landings in the 1960s and 1970s. My personal opinion is that the moon landings were not faked. However it seemed like a very interesting topic so I thought I'd post it here and see what you have to say about it.

Here are two links. The first one is created by the conspiracy theorists and the second one refutes the theory. I know there are hundreds of other links available, these were just some of the first ones that I came across. If you find something better please feel free to add another link.

I really like the moonlanding conspiracy theories, they fit so nicely into the mood of the era. The US absolutely *had* to land on the moon first or lose a huge amount of face, so I do think they would have been willing to fake it.

I do not buy into the conspiracy theories myself though, they seem to be refuted a bit too well. They are nice and easy to believe however. :)

As joacqin says, the arguments debunking the hoax theories seem pretty convincing.

    No hoax.

Honesly, if you can't laugh at the moon landing "conspiracy", you've no since of humor at all.

There was a movie made about a Mars landing conspiracy, too. I've watched the majority of it, a couple of times in my life. There's three astronauts, and the ship burns up on re-entry. Since it was known at the very last minute that there was a part-failure that would kill the crew, they ("Mission Control") approached them with an alternative to death. But the ship burned up on re-entry, which NASA had *not* foreseen. After the burn-up, they figured it would be best to kill the astronauts so no word ever got out. They hunted them through the deserts of Arizona, I belive.

It was a fairly cheesy conspiracy movie. The Oliver Stone JFK was better, since it's highly likely a multi-billion dollar corporation would hire the Mafia. Good business and all that. Cash money.

    Liquid assets.

This theory was also introduced in a book called "The third alternative" which was a British book written by some guys of Channel4 IIRC who tried to do a documentary about the flee of scientists from Europe to USA and found themselves with a big story written on the book. That book is banished from the bookstores, it is very difficult to find it anymore.
In this book it is said that the moon landing was not a fake but in fact it was a cover for the real challenge which was the landing on Mars.
