[IMG] This has been out for about a week, but since I am the leading geek here, I thought I'd pass it on the all the fans on the boards.

Apparently, ROTK will show nothing concerning the fate of Saruman. There was a 7 minute segment that dealt with an outcome for both Saruman and Grima that has been cut from the theatrical release. Jackson's reasoning was that it made the movie start out feeling like a wrap to TTT, instead of the begining of a new movie. Many hardcore fans are up in arms, and Christopher Lee is now talking about not attending the London premiere. As if the movie needs more publicity ;) .

The good news is that the cut scene will be included in the extended edition of ROTK when released on dvd in @ a year.

Of course it's not popluar after 2 hours of been opened

It is ashame that it has been cut. Although I'm looking foward to the extended version, as iirc they have added some new things in regarding Saruman.

Don't know why no one cares. Maybe they're all waiting for the next Britney Spears movie.

On the normal DVD to TTT, you get a preview to TTT Extended DVD where it tells you that when Peter Jackson cut some things, he says "Don't worry, it'll be on the extended DVD" I think this is really quite stupid, as a lot of people aren't going to buy, or even see, the extended version.

T.'g'.g. - one thing you learn on these Boards is that it often takes a couple of hours or more for someone to respond to a post. First, people need to see the post (and it needs to be someone who has an opinion one way or another); then, they need to consider their reaction before they reply. Also, there seems to be more traffic on the Boards during the week; Hacken Slash posted on the weekend, which might increase the length of time involved. Finally, I'm not sure what the point is of replying to a post by saying that nobody is interested.

On topic, it's been so long since I read the books that I don't recall the story line very well. So if they skip a part or modify it, I wouldn't really know the difference.

[IMG] The 'good' guy, what you did in this topic 3 times is popularly called spam. Which is against the rules on this board. And for which spammers get the IoTW plaque. So do yourself a favour and go read the forum rules you agreed to follow upon registration. The alternatives will be far less pleasant, I can promise you that.

O well, I'll just get my extended TT DVD tomorrow and I'll have to look forward to the extended ROTK DVD next year. Great, then I can watch all of them in a row.

There has been a lot of deleted stuff from even the extended versions. It would be great to get absolutely everything that was shot and see all of that in each "extended" version getting the "extended extended DVDs" for all three movies. Now that would be cool.

I'm quite sure that some time after the extended DVD of RotK has come out, a super-extended DVD-box will be released with all three extended movies and some more extras like more scenes...

Ahh. There's one guy who knows his job alright. The masses won't get to see Saruman. Boo-hoo-hoo.

No offense to anyone on this board (that is, those who've been here, are here, and will be here). And with all offense to anyone not on the boards.

I couldn't care less. Or well, to be completely honest I do feel some sort of emotion for the lack of Saruman in RoTK. That emotion is that of a slight curiosity as to how a person unfamiliar with the books will react. And how *do* they intend to continue the story from the ending in TT. All that, however, is overruled by the emotion of sheer joy. Joy in that for once I -unlike those masses-, who enjoy long deep and profound movie experiences will be rewarded. Can't watch a movie that takes over 3 hours? Well, it's your bad. Oh no I'm not bitter or anything that I'm going to have to pay another 10 euros for the second part of Kill Bill just because it was cut to better prefer the masses taste, nothing near that. As if.

After seeing what the measly 30 minutes did to FoTR Extended Edition, I came to accept the truth (my very own twisted personal view of it). The truth, to me, is that the theatrical versions are just lures for the money. A slightly bit different hollywood films made to call in the commoners and their cash. They are stripped, cut and mutilated versions of the real movies. I enjoyed FoTR EE immensely, I'm sure I will do the same in case of TT EE. And I don't care what they cut from RoTK for it's still just a moneymaker. The real movie will be coming in the late 2004.

And I am glad. I have been served.

And by the way, do forgive or at least understand my strange behaviour this day. I'm very tired. Again.

@Apeman: Yes, that is true, but it's still a shame.

I've actually stopped reading The Lord of The Rings at the start of RotK, just so that if something is missed/altered I won't moan about it. Instead I'll just constantly complain that Viggo Mortensen can't act.

BTW did anyone notice that in Indiano Jones: The Last Crusade, that Sean Astin (Sam in LotR) is one of the people trying to kill the young Indy.

sir Bel, it's as said a movie for the masses. Imagine an epic movie with the ultimate climax in the downfall of the dark lord, not being the ending.. er..

Personally I think that for a lot of the uninitiated they'd be puzzled and restless to really enjoy that last bit anyway. Ending a great movie in a great scene makes well.. a great impression.

Call it Blasphemy, call it whatever. I'm waiting to judge after the extended edition.

As has been commented here, if you want the cut scenes, by the DVD a year from now.

Some may call the deleted scenes good marketing, but I think it's for practicality. These movies are already around 3 hours long. With the added scenes you're looking at close to 4 hours (48 minutes added to TTT). While I, and many others, would have no trouble sitting through a 4 hour movie, quite frankly, the movie theaters themselves don't want the movie to be that long. Even in big theaters, there is a finite amount of screens, and the longer the movie is, the fewer times they can show it per day.

So, if anything the movie people would certainly urge the producers to put out a 3 hour film rather than a four hour film.

Look at it this way. In the U.S. the typical movie theater opens around noon, and closes around midnight. So that's about 12 hours to show movies. If the movie is 3 hours long, you can show it four times on each screen (most theaters show the same movie (if very popular) on multiple screens, espcially if they are selling out all the seats). For a four hour movie, you can only show it three times.

Think of what that does in terms of revenue in the first few weeks alone. You're losing hundreds of ticket purchases per theater, in thousands of theaters all over the world every single day, and the movie theaters miss out on millions of dollars.

Ah yes, that is a point to be made too. Not just how the majority of people seem to find longer movies boring. An average person does have the patience to sit and watch for only 2 hours max.
