With all those "X game you've ever played" topics, I wanted to make one I haven't seen yet.
What game have you played for so long, without being able to leave the computer or just couldn't leave it alone for at least a day?

Mine gotta be X-Com - Ufo Enemy Unknown (UFO defence for the american people).
I just started playing it again and I've just managed to get out since I got school tomorrow. And yes, it quite possibly got the best replay value I've ever seen in a game.

Well, I'm sure nobody else is going to say this ( ), but I'll go out on a limb and say BG2. The only other game that came close was the original Diablo, but it pales in comparison.

For me, there's two types of addiction.

    1) You get sucked into the game during one session and play it for several hours straight. For this, I'd say Colonization because there are no "stopping points" - you just continue turn after turn developing your colonies and before you know it, its 3:00 am.

    2) You keep coming back to replay the game over weeks/months. For this I'd pick Super Smash Brothers for its fun and action. Another choice would just be your basic card games, like Bridge, or even solitaire (casino style addiction here :) )

Since this IS Sorcerer's Place, a RPG haven, I should at least say a little about why RPG's weren't chosen. In the first case, I tend to quit after the end of a subquest and start a new quest later; hence ending that one gaming session. For the second case, I think it is the randomness of those type of games that make me come back for more. Most RPG's have set events, which becomes dull to replay. And others are simply too long, like the Final Fantasies, most of which I've only played once.

F-zero on my Snes, Everyday I just GOT to play at least one race. Since this game doesn't have story you can play it forever, unlike heavy story CRPG like Baldur's Gate even if the game is great after some try you just have to stop playing it because you've try everyting, but a race game is another story...

Definitely Civilizations 2. Over the years I have had far too many occasions when I looked down at my watch and did the "Aaagh, how could it possibly be this late?" reaction.

Invariably I end up saying that I will save and quit after one more turmn but then something happens that requires my attention in the following turn and I don't want to risk forgetting about it so the "one last turn" happens again and again for far too many hours.

Any FF game I buy lasts at least a year or 2 before it gets boring. My favorite is FF8 and I've finished it about 11 times over the course of 5 years(I'm thinking about playing it again too).

Baldur's Gate 2 and Deus ex are close runners up.

The most addictive game would have to be either an early version of ADOM (Ancient Domains Of Mystery) or X-COM: Ufo Enemy Unknown. ADOM - for those unfamiliar with the thing - was (or perhaps still is, I don't know) an ASCII text adventure game. (I was a cute little '@' running around fighting monsters :) ).

But that was back when I was young, naive and easily amused... Nowadays, I'm a bitter old man, and if yer game doesn't fully utilize my Banshee Voodoo Giga Blaster Megaforce UltraChip thingy, the deal is off! ;) ;)

Blog's categories apply to me as well. So, as far as replay addiction is concerned, these are the most addictive games for me:
    Close Combat series
Heroes of might and magic III
    Baldur's Gate 2
    Panzer General 3D
    Medieval: Total War
    Civilization: Call to power

As far as the continuous gaming sessions, these are the most addictive games:
    Baldur's Gate 2
    Alpha Centauri
    Commando: behind the enemy lines
    Fallout 1&2
    Red Allert

Baldur's Gate for sure. It was the only thing I played for months on end for hours at a time.

Well, aside from Baldurs Gate 2 and Thief 2, I guess it would be Star Wars Rebellion.

Some are allready mentioned, so i will not repeat them, plus:

    Master of Orion 2
    Total Annihilation
Micro Machines 2 (and 1, but 2 is much better when there are 4 players on 1 comp)

someone mentioned Diablo 1 (i think)

    I will say Diablo 2! :D

    Civilization 1!
I would spend many many many hours playing this. And it would probably be my most replayed games as well!

    As with a few others:

    Civ 1, 2, & 3
    Master of Orion 1 & 2 (Haven't tried 3.)
Alpha Centauri & Alien Crossfire (SMAC)

    All JOMT* games. :D

It's so much fun realizing that you don't have to squint any more because there's sunlight coming in the windows. ;)

The Civilisation games, as so many have said. I also had a serious addiction to BG2 which lead me here.

Alpha Centauri -I played it for hours and hours before I changed to W2K... Then the graphics just "became" too old.

Another one is BG2, which I still play.
