Even though I've been playing these games since they came out, I never tried a multi-class character... and now that I'm considering one, I thought I would question the mechanics of it. Now, obvious, if I make a, lets say, Fighter/Mage/Thief, the main character's exp will be split three different ways, making him level up MUCH slower. My question is, alright, let's say, you're in a group, totalling of six people. Now lets say you're given 6000 experience. Does that mean, each character gets 1000 exp, and the F/M/T's 1000 will be split up three ways, or, does it mean that the amount of exp givin will be distributed 8 ways, like the extra Mage/Thief classes of my main character are considered like 'other people' in the group?

The 1000xp would be divided equally into each of the three classes.

    Multiclass is outstanding in ToB!
    - You get the HLA's (High Level Abilities) when your characters combined XP reaches 3,000,000, which for example means that a F/M starts getting them already at F-14/M-14. For dual classed characters only the XP from the active class counts.
    - You can pick HLA from any of your classes.
    - Character improvement almost stops around levels 20-24 which is what a multiclass (except triple classed) character will reach.

I don't like triple classed characters.
    Max levels for them are:
    F-18/M-17/T-22
    F-18/M-17/C-19
For the fighter class this means THAC0 will be several notches from the max. :o
The mage class can't use 9th level spells. :(
The cleric and thief classes are just fine at those levels.
