So, who's into music here?

Me, being a musician and sound technician myself, love visiting concerts and music festivals. There is something so pure about the music being made live, instead of hearing it on cd.

My vocal coach always talks about "it", if a singer comes on stage, you immediately know if he/she has "it" or not. In other words, the moment the band comes on stage, before playing a note, you know whether or not the band will rock your socks off.

I usually try to visit at least one music festival and a handful of gigs each year. Music festivals are great for seeing a lot of different bands and new potential, but the bands usually only play their hits. So for a truly breathtaking experience I usually visit a concert.

To date I've seen 152 different acts, probably more, but I only started my list this year, 'cause I'm already forgetting bands...

So, who's into music here and what's the best act you've ever witnessed?

 

I've only been to two gigs of fairly big bands and today I'm going to see my boyfriends band perform for the second time.

I've seen Mindless Self Indulgence in London at the Astoria,
Saw Skindred at Mr C's in Poole

Both times I've ended up getting injured I've never been able to go to gigs before the past year because none of my friends have been willing to help me and none of my family like the music I do or just haven't turned up when they're supposed to take me.

I'm hoping to see Disturbed in October, will need to get seated tickets though

 

I've seen a few, but it's really quite hard to pick a single best one, there's a few that I've really enjoyed but for different reasons.

Grinspoon at HQ (kinda seedy nightclub in Adelaide) was pretty awesome, the place was absolutely packed and *everyone* in the sunken area in front of the stage (and it's quite a big sunken area) was moshing like crazy and I was in the 2nd row. I was wearing a new pair of (white) shoes and they were black by the end of it

O'ball festival (held by my uni in Orientation week) was chilled as - it was a warm summer day, and they had a whole lot of local acts to kick off the day with, before the bigger bands came out at night. I was heaps into one of the local indie bands at the time (City Riots) and was just able to just lay back on the grass, sun overhead, with a beer and a few mates and take it all in. There were probably only a 1 or 2 hundred people on the lawns and just 3 people up front dancing to it.

The Offspring and Incubus at last years Soundwaves festival are probably worth a mention just because of the size of the crowd, it was held at a pretty massive park and the crowd stretched back for ages. There were also a few 3-person-high shoulder rides going around

 

I sometimes go to the local Jazz festival here to see Hans Dulfer, that's about it for the local stuff.

I went once to the Red Hot Chili Peppers, somewhere in 2001 and I went to Roger Waters last may. The Roger Waters one was the best act, of course, him playing Sheep combined with the 'release of the flying pig' and the Vera - Bring the boys back home - Comfortably Numb encore at the end was the best music experience I've ever had.

I don't go to concerts much. My favorite artists, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, etc, have long broke up and/or died.

 

I've seen Nine Inch Nails, The Cure, and Nightwish, all of which were fantastic.

Well, The Cure needs to attract a better crowd, rather than lots of bored looking people (and also play more songs from Faith...). NIN could probably do with a slightly less violent/dickish crowd (fistfights breaking out in the moshpit...), and get a better support act that doesn't make your ears *bleed*. Nothing to complain about with Nightwish though

 

I'm about to head down into Budapest for the Sziget Festival. It should be crazy.
