Below is my latest recommended reading list, as calculated by Amazon.co.uk:

    1. Fool's Errand (Tawny Man S.) by Robin Hobb
    2. The Liveship Traders 1: Ship of Magic by Robin Hobb
    3. The Golden Fool (Tawny Man S.) by Robin Hobb
    4. The Mad Ship (Liveship Traders S.) by Robin Hobb
    5. Ship of Destiny (Liveship Traders S.) by Robin Hobb
    6. Men at Arms by Terry Pratchett
    7. Assassin's Quest (Farseer S.) by Robin Hobb
    8. A Feast for Crows (Song of Ice & Fire S.) by George R.R. Martin
    9. Fool's Fate (Tawny Man S.) by Robin Hobb Average Customer Review:
    10. Eats, Shoots & Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation by Lynne Truss
    11. The Hedge Knight by George R. R. Martin, et al
    12. The Mabinogion (Fantasy Masterworks S.) by Evangeline Walton
    13. The Drawing of the Dark (Fantasy Masterworks S.) by Tim Powers
    14. The New Contented Little Baby Book by Gina Ford
    15. Fever Pitch by Nick Hornby

It mostly seems pretty accurate, as I am still reading no. 7 at the moment and will try and find the rest of those Robin Hobb books to read. I've never heard of The Mabinogion though. Has anyone read that?

Anyway, it will probably take me about 6 months to make my through that list at my current rate.

Also, is there any update on when the next Song of Ice and Fire book will come out? It sits there tantalisingly on my list but it's not available to read. That's unfair!

the mabinogion is a collection of stories translated from the welsh. they deal with the old celtic heroes and foreshadow the arthurian tradition. there's a translation by lady charlotte guest which is illustrated by alan lee (who among many other good works worked on peter jackson's lotr). haven't read the one you are referring to, but have seen it around.

Go to www.georgerrmartin.com for the latest updates on a feast for crows. It has been delayed many times and is over a year behind schedule.

I wouldn't recommend getting them, the Farseer Trilogy (which comes before that one) is many, many times better, and as they follow on from each other...

I've got the Mabinogion, (probably the copy mentioned by lasgalen) its... different.
To be honest I wouldn't recommend getting it as a book for casual reading. If you have a particular interest in understanding the history behind the Arthurian legends then it might be of interest, but it's only VERY loosely connected. Some of the stories come from bardic tales, where the main concept behind them is reciting a family tree, and after a page of XXX son of XXX it gets a bit wearisome. Another tale has a chap listing tasks someone must perform in order to win the hand of their daughter (I think), this goes on for about three pages.

Hurrah, it is good to see that some writers take their time on their books and not let themselves be hurried by their fans. Unlike that Salivatore...

Hurrah my arse, he'd better speed it up :p

<sigh> this is why I shouldn'tve broken my rule of only collecting a series if I'm able to get all the books at once
