    The fact that Mr. Goetschel recently represented a dead fish, in a case in which a Zurich fisherman was accused of torture for taking ten minutes to land a pike, might also have convinced Swiss voters that their lunch did not need legal representation.

    Looks like the Swiss have some common sense -- what an utterly frivolous waste of time to even have the topic come up. The comments on that message board were wild -- equating fishing with animal cruelty that could lead to violence against humans? That's among the stupidest effing things I've ever heard -- I don't like fishing myself, but I know lots of fishermen and none of them are unstable to any degree. I know I have a lot of anger issues, but animal rights psychos really, really, really piss me off no end.

    Well its not like the government had a choice in that matter. The petitioners managed to get the minimum 100,000 signatures (out of a population of 8 million) for the proposal which meant that a referendum HAD to take place on the national level. Last time around the swiss decided to ban minarets through this same procedure. :rolleyes:
