Mystery Death of Arie

Discussion in 'BG2: Shadows of Amn (Classic)' started by biggreenpriest, Mar 8, 2001.

  1. [IMG] I was in Underdark, was already turned drow by silver dragon. I decided to go clean up the Beholder area, which I had peeked in (and ran like hell) earlier.

Armed with the "shield", I jumped in. Started my main character on the elder orb and ran every one else up into the tunnel, hiding, with AI off.

    I kill them, no problem.

Then we all team up, with AI back on, to kill the 5 drow. Again, not a problem.

I leave the team back in the very first cavern, right next to the entrance, and go into the main tunnels.

I'm killing them just fine, taking a little fireball damage occasionally. AI is definately on, because my character is sort of auto-piloting, giving the whole bunch of them the business end of the Flail of the Ages.

Over the din I hear, "My witch! My witch!" and I look to see a gray Arie and a pissed off Minsc. I quickly scroll over to see what happened and sure nuff, dead Arie and grieving Boo. No enemies in sight, AI on, so my party would have attacked anything in sight.

Just as suddenly, my main character dies. Now, you die fast with petrification/shattering blow, so I don't need an explanation for how someone could die hip deep in Gauth-goop.

    But what happened to Arie?

Maybe she was turned to stone but not blown to bits?

Maybe someone had put a 'Death symbol' there?
If your current hitpoints are under 60 you can save or you'll die. Maybe she failed her savingthrow?

  4. Punisher, that is possible. Didn't think about that one.

I also considered a "crack" in the wall. That is, sometimes you'll see "cracks" in a wall that light will come through. Well, if light can come through, how 'bout a spell? There were dozens being thrown at me at that moment, and I was only an inch away from Arie, separated by a thick wall.

If that is the case , as above BGP , then she may have been affected by the area effect of a spell.

But it should not go through a wall I would have thought.

Could make for some interesting battles if spells worked through walls.
