It appears that Noam Chomsky, Chris Hedges, Cornell West, etc. were successful in challenging the indefinite detention portion of the NDAA bill. I'm personally very happy about this, even if there is still the possibility of an appeal, but i'm also completely ashamed to live in a country that claims to be able to revoke due process and hold people for many years while never offering a single piece of evidence.

The judge apparently asked the government lawyers five times if they could expressly state that first amendment activities would not bring someone into a state of indefinite detention, and five times they said they could not answer. If Obama agrees to a permanent injunction (meaning it will be forever illegal) than I would probably vote for him. I don't care who you are or what you believe or what the state says you have done, everyone deserves the right to have the case against them heard in a court of law. Period.

I imagine everyone but the security forces are happy about that. :)

Interestingly enough, not even the security forces were for it. Defense Secretary Leo Panetta, FBI Director Robert Mueller, and Director of National Intelligence James Clapper all said that it would make their jobs harder. When even the security forces oppose it, who are the people who actually want to see this thing go through? Personally I think this goes to show how bad our government has become on the issue of civil liberties. It's just been one assault after another and it's culminated in this mockery of justice.
