I have recently finished BG2 SofA and I'm about halfway through with TofB. I'm enjoying myself tremendously.

Is there another game that will allow me to export my current BG2 character into that game so that I can continue with him on another adventure?

Any recommendations? And if there isn't another game that will allow me to use the same character, can someone recommend another similar game that I would enjoy?

    Thanks!

IIRC, you can export your BG2 character into Neverwinter Nights (also covered on this site).

Is Neverwinter Nights along the same lines as BG2? If I enjoyed BG2 would that be a similar experience?

    Thanks in advance.

I'm afraid that importing our BG2 character into Neverwinter Nights, while originally, planned, proved undoable.

    Here is from the source,
1.06: Can I import my character from the Baldur's Gate series? (Back to Top)

"Initially we had hoped to transfer Baldur's Gate characters over to the Neverwinter Nights game but after working with the completely different rules, engine, graphics and character attributes, we could not see any purpose to stripping an old character of all items (as Neverwinter Nights starts the player at first level), all experience, all additional level bonuses and leaving them with just their name. We decided against the ability to transfer characters."

Also, your there is no other game that I know of that will accept your char from BG2 and ToB.

Even though that won't work out for you, I recommend one of the massive mods for BG2. Some add quite a bit of new playing time to the game. That said, I don't have that much experience with said mods as I find it very hard to get back into BG2 (too many hours starting and stopping with different characters and races).

To answer your last question, NWN is very different from BG2. Essentially, it uses the Forgotten Realms setting for D&D... that’s about all it has in common with BG2.

 Never mind. You might also want to check out the original Baldur's Gate if you haven't already.

Unfortunately no games allow you to export your BG2 characters.

If you liked the interactions in the game, try BG1. Another good game is Planescape: Torment (it might be difficult to find). If you liked the combat, then Icewind Dale and Icewind Dale 2 are resonable choices. I've enjoyed all the above games.

Another great series is Fallout and Fallout 2. You can still find these in some discount stores.

You can't import your character to another game, but you can start them up again along the same lines in any of the other D&D based CRPGS:

    Baldur's Gate
    Neverwinter Nights
    Planescape: Torment
    Icewind Dale
    Icewind Dale II

subject to some minor (and not so minor) changes in rules between each game.

    If you haven't played

    Baldur's Gate
    Planescape: Torment
Icewind Dale + Heart of Winter + Trials of Luremaster
    Icewind Dale II

Then you should definitely pick one (or all) of those up. Personally, I didn't enjoy Fallout 1 + 2 or Neverwinter Nights, so I wouldn't recommend those games.

However, most people think FO1 + 2 are the golden chalice of RPG gaming, so I just might be a weird minority!

Well, people like all these games for different reasons. The ones who want meaningful choices in their games go for the Fallouts, those who want story, character, and setting brilliance go for Ps:T, those who want hack'n'slash go for IWD, modders go for NWN, and er ... the rest go for the BGs :)

I used to post at the Interplay forums, before they shut down, and yes, that was the case there. Everyone drooled over the Fallout as perfect games, and I thought they were actually pretty crappy.
