Need Help With My Ranger/Cleric

I just made *another* game this time with a half-elven Ranger/Cleric, and he's awsome indeed! You have so many recources at your disposal: cleric spells, druid spells, stealth, racial enemy...the list goes on. Anyway, that's not the reason I'm posting this.

I have yet to figure out a good party for him. I usually take Valygar but since I'm intentionally restricting myself to only leather armor, this could be a problem, as I'll need at least one fighter with tanking power. I'm probably going to keep Jaheria because she can use all those good scimitars, and wear plate. I'll also keep Imoen as well, as I'll need a thief. As you can see, I need help :). Keep in mind that I want a full party of 6 people, and I don't mind taking evil members, I can always whack a peasant or two to lower my reputation

What equiptment should I end the game with? For armor, I suppose it will be something that I can use stealth with. As for weapons the obvious choices are the Flail of Ages and Crom, but I won't be getting Crom until rather late in the game, and I'm not sure if I want to use it or not. Any type of blunt weapon that you can dual wield fits under this catagory...

What stronghold should I choose? Ranger or Cleric? I've play neither of them as of yet. Which one is more rewarding in terms of experience and items, and or fun? What items do you get exactly from each one?

Where do you get the Ring of Holiness? I'm sure it will be a great asset to him, but I've yet to find it...

is your character's strenght 18? you might want to dual the mace that would increase your strenght to 18/00 (i think). it is being sold by bernard in cc. this would let you take advantage of the ranger's +2 slots in dual wield, and allow you to wear belts of diff. protection rather than strenght enhancing belts. the mace is a decent one (i think +2). you can later use crom if you want. but that would mean distributing your proficiency points to 3 weapons (as you mentioned, flail of ages and crom -- flail & hammer, and now, mace).

I also never used either one of those strogholds, but couldn't you get both of them ( my assasin/fighter has Maevar's guild and DeArnise hold).
I think you should relly on your rings, amulets and cloaks, since you're not get gonna get good AC from your armour (at least not til you get to ToB).
As for the party members, I think there is a lack of good warriors in the game. I really don't like Mazzy I can fit in your pocket Fentan, or Minsc I get fried by one psionic blast, right Boo? I like Valygar, but the armour could be a problem. I suggest you take Korgan with his awesome berserk ability, and Keldorn (I don't like him in my party, but I can't see a better warrior in the game). Mage - Edwin, no doubt.

BTW, What IS the cleric stronghold, anyway?

the ranger/cleric is a great combo. I think I had one of my best games so far when I played one.

For additional party members, I think Korgan and Mazzy are your best choices for fighters, although Keldorn can come in handy with those dispel magics and true sights. Edwin seems like the obvious choice for magic support, and either Jan or Yoshimo should come along until you rescue Imoen. If you plan on using spells like smite evil, though, you might want to take a non-evil party, and in that case I would suggest: Keldorn, Mazzy, Jan or Yoshimo and (shudder) Nalia.

The cleric stronghold isn't that great, but I think the ranger's is one of the best in the game. The side quests are interesting and relevant, and the rewards are nice too. You might have to do the cleric's though, because if I recall correctly, that's how you get the ring of holiness.

There are lots of good leather armors in the game (really, you could take valygar if you wanted)-I would take either the shadow dragon armor or the Night's gift.

weapons: the evil party hanging out in the sewers have a nice morningstar (the Wyvern's tail or something like that) that works well early in the game; there are lots of decent maces, too: the strength-increasing mace (as nior pointed out) and the mace of disruption later in the game.

    An effective party would be:
    Keldorn
    Korgan
    Jaheira
    Jan(later Imoen)
    Edwin

Keldorn and korgan as tanks, keldorn with a certian sword, korgan with axes.
Even your ranger/cleric can tank it.I recomend mace of disruption, to make him even more deadly aginst undead.
Jaheira with belm, also second line fighter and support you with druid spells.
Edwin takes care of your mage spells.
Jan/Imoen acts as your thief and support mage.
    Sorted. Have fun.

Oh yeah! I forgot that soon I will be able to cast Iron Skins, a varient of Stone Skin, so I think I will be able to tank. Combine that with spells like holy power and draw upon holy might, I don't think I will have a problem tanking.

[IMG] Don't forget defensive harmony as well.

My first Ranger/Cleric had Mazzy, Aerie, and Valygar with him.
