[IMG] Perish the thought of needing help with Mystical creatures but, alas, it has come to be :wail:

I have been searching the web all day but have found nothing on my subject - Sphinx. I need to know their orders and types but nobody has clue.

    EG.
    Gynosphinx
    Deyfasphinx
    Cheirosphinx
    Heirosphinx

But I'm not sure if there are other or which order they arein their society, I have their laws and everything and their land sorted out but still I do not know their correct titles. If anyone here could help me out - I would be grateful

Sfinx, you mean the Egyptian thingies?
I know some stuff 'bout that:

A Sfinx is a creature that has the body of a lion, the wings of an eagle, and the face of a beautiful young woman. It guards something, dunno wat exactly. Everyone who wants to pass, must solve a riddle. The riddle is as follows:

"wat walks on 4 limbs in the morning, 2 at noon, and 3 at dusk?"

No one knew the answer to this, and they all got ripped apart by the beast. Exept for one man (dunno who) He knew the answer: man. As a child, they crawl on feet and hands. As an adult, they walk on 2 feet. As an aged person, they walk on 2 feet with the help of a stave.

That man was Oidipus. You know, that guy, who killed his dad and married his mother.(From Greek Mythology)

    I'll search more later. :)

[IMG] I know all that stuff about them. And that was just the favorite riddle of the particular sphinx - I need to know the different types, that's all.

I know I'm missing at least two.

    IIRC

Gynoshpinx - Lion part is darker than others and has more green on wings. Protects small treasures with simple riddles and foul tempers. Rather small

Deyfasphinx - Slightly lighter than a Gynoshpinx and has red on the wings, unusual for sphinx, has a haunting voice and blocks passages and routes, larger than a Gynosphinx, harder riddles, calm but a swift killer at being displeased

Cheirosphinx - slightly reddish lion, sparse colouring on wings, more robust and have rather evil voices, they gaurd places that often play a part in history or the destiny of mortals. Often take part of armies of great importance.

Heirosphinx - A brilliant golden lion, quite a bit of colouring on wings - blues, grees, yellows. the Largest of the four often lead armies, often protect/guard things by fighting potential threats, riddles can drive people mad and often don't have a logical answer.

    It's Oedipus, Ezzie and 'callie.

8people - where have you found information from these creatures? I doubt that they come from historical mythology. In mythology, the Sphinx, I believe, was a single creature, not a species.

[IMG] I am talking about the evolution of it from Myth into Fantasy. There was always an order to them though.

The Sphynx in Mythology way always a single creature in both Greek and Egyptian mytholgoy.

In a fantasy sense there are different classes - like with a city - workers, merchants, fighters, nobles, roalty. Or like in Drow society or the elven. Dragon may be a better example ranging from Hatchling to Great Wyrm

There is a creature known as a Heiracosphnix (rhymes with Iraq-o-sphinx) in D&D. Perhaps that's what you meant. I do know that a creature known as a Gynosphnix exists in D&D as well. Still, I don't know much about them, but I'll try to see what I can find :) .
