Neutral evil party (spoilers-if anyone cares)

I am playing Bg with a neutral evil fight/thief female PC.

I have Imoen, Kagin, Garrick, Vicky and Shar-teel.

    Two questions:

    1) My reputation is up to 17. I'm ready to go to Baldur's Gate and want keep my rep down. What should I do or not do? I have played the game before so 'spoilers' are okay. Although you might surprise me I doubt it.

    2) Shar-Teel. I hate that woman but she is a killing machine despite her low con. Just have to keep feeding her potions of healing. Not sure there are enough in the game. Should I keep her, get someone else or torture her to death?

    Oh another question.

In one of the non-estential areas we came across some gnolls, I think, who offered to have their champion fight my champion but he took off after Vicky and I had to force fight him to stop him killing her. Does anyone know why I can't choose my champion? Vicky certainly isn't one unless she is buffed up.

    1) Go kill someone. Firebead Elvenhair back in Beregost is a good one to vent on.

    2) Yeah, she's a b****, but she's a good killer. Though in your neutral evil party I wouldn't bother putting up with her, if you've had her for a while you might as well make good on your investment and keep her.

    3) The gnoll picks them with a "StrongestOf" command; I don't know if that refers specifically to strength, or HP, or some combination of factors. It never really matters for me because I always kill all four of the 'hairy piles of hyena dung'. :shake:

The strongest is Shar-teel, the most HP is Kagin. That's what surprised me. I was mad as hel. I get very involved. :) I went berserk and set my party loose. That'l larn the bstds.

She was the last to join the party but she has about 3X more kills than anyone else. I have Kagin with boots of speed and gauntlets of Dex. I give him the strength increasing potions and he's great but Shar-Teel loves to kill. They did a good job with her except the developers seemed to think everyone would play as a male. Dumb developers. If she'd just shut up I wouldn't mind her.

I'm thinking about dumping Garrick. He's nice for his lore but I'm not good with bards. I don't know how to outfit him to use him best.

Imoen is my mage. Offhand I don't remember what level; 5 or 6 I think. Thief is level 3.

Well, it's a given that Kagain will have the most max HP, but did he have the most current HP? I guess the same goes for the Gauntlets of Ogre Power on Viconia, but if you haven't been to the big city yet you wouldn't have them. And of course, Shar-Teel's "StrongestMale" command doesn't pick the most logical one every time either. ;)

I don't really know what to say about Garrick. Give him a crossbow and some Bracers of Defense, and have him snipe from the sidelines with bolts and spells. When that's ineffective or if you need the boost for your frontliners, have him sing. Really, Eldoth's the better bard with his poison arrows, but then you have to get Skie killed since she's of absolutely no use.

I skiped the Skie quest. Think I could go back and get it. Maybe another time. I'm thinking about a monk or cleric/mage already.

Shar-Teel didn't have much choice. Kagin, Monty or Garrick. Think she picked Monty.

I'm about to hit Baldur's Gate. Intend to do a few of the quests I skipped with my 'good' party. Maybe I'll go back and kill Firebead Elvenhair.

By the way I went to the Gnoll Fortress without either Edwin or Minsc. I freed whats-her-name. I was curious to what they say when I got back. Ah the limitations of the 'pewter. They want me to do their quest. Minsc gets upset when I say no, seeing as how I already did it and I had to kill him. Didn't seem right but I guess someone resurrects him for BGII.

Solved the reputation problem without going back to Beregost. I robbed some place. Flaming Fists showed up. I killed them. Now my rep is 3! Shar-Teel thinks we may have possibilities. Kagin has shut up. Prices are exorbitant but we have money.

Help!!! I messed up and got to Candlekeep before I did any of the interesting quests in Baldur's Gate. Right now I'm wandering around under Candlekeep. Will I be able to do any of the quests or should I avoid the city and do the Tower and other things added by the expansion?

Sure you can do the quests after you return from Candlekeep. Just watch out for the Flaming Fist pansies. :) Or then, you can do them after ruining Sarevok's plans.

...but then again you ARE evil. Perhaps the Flaming Fists need to be thinned out.

I would certainly do the expansion before going back to the city anyway (better rewards and more challenging). You'll probably max out your XP before you get back to Baldur's Gate (there are only a few interesting quests, most are just 'do this, get this magic item' type stuff).

I did a few quests in my vanila game a while ago. I have not done the tower. With my rep at 4 I don't know how many FF I can kill.

    All of them? :hahaerr:

Then again, you can just wait until after you've foiled Sarevok's plans (at the coronation) and then walk freely about the streets of Baldur's gate again.

Or you could just get very familiar with the sewers. ;)

How low can the rep go? Besides I'm not evil  just selfish and self-centered and I don't hate the FF not like the cowled wizards.

Well, Garrick should leave at 1, but otherwise you shouldn't have any problem if what I've heard about Imoen never leaving is true. Once you get down to 1, though, no matter what you do, you can't get it any lower. Kill whoever you want to, steal from whoever you want to, and slaughter a group of FF every few steps in the city.

If you take a look at the manual, you'll find the reputation level 0 (villain) in the rep table, but at least I have never been able to achieve it :(

    @Larry:
That's a misprint, and one of many included in the manual. I believe the readme has the manual corrections and addendums in it if you'd care to see what else is wrong.

If your reputation gets too low Imoen might leave your party (might even happen during combat), but she doesn't go away and you can make her join again immediately.

Oh well :D I guess it'll be the first time for me to even touch a readme file.

When playing an evil party, I don't even try to make it a full party. Those goody-goodies are annoying, though the whining really begins when we get to BG2.
