Here are today's Neverwinter Nights 2 forum highlights, collected by NWVault. Please take into account that these are only single parts of various threads and should not be taken out of context. Bear in mind also that the posts presented here are copied as-is, and that any bad spelling and grammar does not get corrected on our end.

    Placeables and such...
Deciding on a script function name and a parameter list unfortunately is not the hard part to make something like that work. I don't think there is a great need from module makers and our designers to spend the large amount of time making it possible. Especially with the simpler (albeit less flexible) solution.

    Water Color

Why just water color? Hey, if you are in wish-list mode ask for colorable grass, sand, cobbles - that would truly rock. Right now all NWN cities kinda look the same, since they all use the same tiles. The only variation you can add is placeables (which slow things down) and lighting/fog, which does not really turn the default city tileset into a desert city. But if you could simply turn a screw and the former grey cobbles become yellowish/brown, that would really give the city a unique feel.Secretly I'm hoping the next post will be Brian saying "Been there, done that" :D
Been there done that indeed...for the most part. We've implemented a system which will allow essentially infinite color variety (governed by what the artist specifically wishes to allow to be changed) on placeables and creatures. Since the new cities are built using placeables, I think you have the answer you were looking for. ;) While the terrain itself doesn't employ this exact technique (for various other reasons), you can still customize it to your desired look. I can't wait until we can show you guys. It's killing us as much as it's killing you guys. ;)

    Importing/Exporting tile sets

lol, Now that I am on topic, I am looking forward to NW2 and The Tool Set:) My 14 year old is looking forward to it as well. So The game tools will do just about anything? With in the game parameters that is. I know its not going to do the dishes.
I'll say the new toolset will do a lot more of what I think people wanted from the original toolset. Of course it won't do "everything". However Erik and Adam have done a marvelous job of streamlining things and just making it fun to sit down and build an area. I know that every time I sit down and start playing with the toolset I ultimately get sucked into the whole "process" of sculpting terrain, laying down grass, placing trees, placing buildings, placing lights, etc. While that's only a small subset of what the toolset allows you to do...it's still a lot of fun and provides what I like to call "creative satisfaction".As I mentioned in another thread in the Art & Graphics forum, we've also tried to provide you guys/gals with a mechanism for helping to increase the perceived "variety" within a scene while reusing many of the same underlying assets. That includes everything from terrain, to placeabls, to characters/creatures.In a way it's tough to convey via words, so I guess the only other thing I can say is to hang tight until some screenshots finally make their way out. I know hearing that sucks, but it's really the only way I think people are finally going to be able to look at it and say..."oh, NOW I see/understand!" [IMG]

    Wade through water?
At the moment there is nothing game play related to prevent you from entering a body of water. Walkable and non-walkable areas on the terrain will be specified by the area builder. So, lets say for example you build a little pond but don't specify the terrain below it to be non-walkable...then anybody that feels like it can walk through it.

    Water Color

But can some of these colors get altered through scripting?(Particularly the water, lots of good stuff one can do with water manipulation) I know I'm asking a lot, but hey, that's what I do. Also think about on normal objects what color changes could do for representing seasons. It would be awesome!
I believe most if not all of these things will be accessible through sript. ;)

    KotOR interface right for NWN2?
For folks that hate the immersion loss, we currently don't have anywhere where you are forced to switch characters. And you can give orders to your companions without it. You'd have finer control if you switch between yourself and your companions, but the game should be beatable without ever leaving your own perspective. I think you'll lose some tactical gameplay (which is something I *loved* in BG2) - but you can maintain immersion if you like. And if that isn't enough for you, then I invoke the adage, "You can't please all the people, all the time." We try our best, though. :)

    Talk...Talk...Talk...

True, I would like to see a magazine spread. NWN2 cover story in pc gamer or something. Though that's unlikely.
    Really? okay. [IMG]
