Here are today's Neverwinter Nights 2 forum highlights, collected by NWVault. Please take into account that these are only single parts of various threads and should not be taken out of context. Bear in mind also that the posts presented here are copied as-is, and that any bad spelling and grammar does not get corrected on our end.

    Background loading of areas.
No, this is not feasible because it's not possible to predict transitions with any accuracy. (Plus, they can happen through many different mechanisms -- triggers, scripts, scripts in conversations, module loads, etc.) Also, tiles are not really part of a rigidly-defined set as in NWN1, so the idea of "loading a tile set" doesn't make sense anymore.

mpg style of data definition for tilesets?
There is no reason that a designer should have to think about these kinds of things. [IMG] This kind of optimization is really more of an engine-level thing.

Suggested Animal for motion capture of Dragons

There will be no motion capture at all. End of the thread.
    He's right. ;)

    Do we have any specs?
Nope. Not yet. But rest assured, once they are available you'll hear about them.

    Tileset Speculation

Will it be possible with the placeable system you are introducing, to include any placeables like ramps, stairs, walls, etc. in this walkmesh?
    Yes.

    What excites you about NWN2?

You do know that BioWare isn't making NwN2, right? It's being produced by Obsidian.
Actually it's being produced by Atari. It is being developed by Obsidian. That wasn't a nitpick, there really are 2 seperate jobs with very different meanings.

    Japanese language support

I think in Japan this game would be really popular and sell well if were there. I live in Japan and own the English version of NWN, but if NWN2 were to have Japanese support,I think it would explode here since Japanaese people love RPGs. Please consider adding Japanese support for this game.
We have multi-byte character support in the game now so we can display all sorts of international languages. With that said, it is not our decision with regards to which languages the game will be translated to. Atari, as the producer, makes all those decisions.

    Text coloration
The original color tag is gone bcause we have a whole new text, font, and rendering system. However, we will be adding back a coloring system of some sort for text. It will probably be very similar to one of the popular mark-up languages the kids are using these days.

question about reflective surfaces and tilesets

Trademeet in BG2 or this: High Hall of the Radiant Heart in BG2
I think you will be very pleased then with what you will get with NWN2. Neverwinter right now looks very similar to the first image, what with the curving streets and all that. Except our Neverwinter has hills and gradual slopes, as well as some docks complete with piers.

    Familiars and Animal companions
The current plan is that familiars will not fight. They can be put in your backpack. I think the jury is still out on damaging familiars, but I would bet on 'No'. Animal Companions are a completely different deal. They will be similar to how they were in NWN1. Again, none of this is completely set in stone yet.
