    Brian D. Lawson, Programmer

    Interview of Brian D. Lawson

    Thanks for the link.

Brian, obviously you are exceptional. But, besides that ( :) ), what sources did you use to learn your 3D engine programming. Were you self taught or are there other sources of knowledge available to those in the industry? For example, learning advanced techniques from a co-worker (assuming of course one knows enough to get the job in the first place). Just curious.
Thanks for the positive response! It's finally nice to be able to talk a "bit" more about some of the things we've been working on.

As for your questions Allen63... I have a B.S. in Computer Science where I focused as much of my attention on computer graphics courses when/where possible. However, I'd say that the bulk of my true learning came from myself and simply watching, reading, and consuming as much general info about the subject as possible.

I wouldn't say there was any one particular person or point in time where I discovered the pot of knowledge at the end of the rainbow. Personally, I've found that tinkering and experimenting with various ideas provides the best results in terms of expanding my own personal knowledge base. There is no substitution for practicle experience. However, practicle experience doesn't necessarily have to come from a professional job. There are plenty of darn good 3D coders out there that don't do this every day for a living. Just take a brief look at the underground European demo scene if you want to see some amazing stuff. In fact, that scene is where I drew and contrinue to draw a lot of my inspiration and motivation from. Try putting together a full blown demo of any sort and you'll quickly discover just how much you can learn! ;)

Anyway, I hope that helped provide at least some insight.
