Guys, reality check. Screenshots sure look better than NWN1, but can you say with straight face they're on par with Oblivion or Gothic3?
I'd say it's a bit hard to determine at this point what the NWN2 engine is capable of. Plus there's still a lot of time between now and the expected release date, while both those titles (Oblivion and Gothic 3) are nearing completion.

That said, I don't think anyone here has been directly comparing the graphics to other games. Or not generally, anyway. And though I don't have empirical evidence, I'd wager that a lot of people on here don't have a bleeding edge computer that can run these high fidelity graphics engines at their highest settings. Then you have to take in account things like what artistic qualities one prefers, how good is the animation (another thing we've yet to see).

As I'm sure most will agree, good graphics is more then just the technology, and highly subjective. Like, for me, animation is in some ways even more important than the technical qualities of the rendering. If everything looks great, but has stiff and unnatural movements, that can really spoil the whole presentation.

There's always going to be some bigger and better technology on the horizon. And in short order, knowing the nature of the computer gaming business. So your better off looking at each title in isolation, finding something you like, and having fun. I'd hate to be the sort that couldn't get past what some might consider technically inferior graphics (and I'm just speaking generally here). Heck, I still have heaps of fun playing Ultima 7, and the graphics in no way impede or limit my immersion. Ah, the joys of baking bread...
    Well said. ;)

    Review of screenshots (cont)...
Because I know it's killing some of you...I'll leave it at this... ;)
Not sure about being a lizardman...

Let's keep these topics ON topic please. Keep the fanboi-isms to other corners of the net. Thanks.

There's no need to bash other games here. The bottom line is that each of these games has their own style, has their own target audience, and has their own agenda.

NWN2 and D&D Movie This Weekend

Quote: Third, Serenity is the best movie ever. 'Bad' wasn't meant as a description of the movies on the scale, rather a description of my quickly hobbled together movie scale.
You don't smoke that stuff when you're working on NWN2, do you? :)

But seriously, Serenity = good. Serenity = Best movie ever? Yeah, Citizen Cane or Gone With The Wind got nothing on anything Joss Whedon makes. Anyway, I'll just say Serenity was good.

But I certainly can't argue with your appraisal of Dracula 3000. Just damn.
    Bah!

Citzen Kane is only good and valued because of the ground breaking filming and directing techniques.

Gone with the Wind == Teh OvarRated.

Now Casablanca, THAT'S a great movie.

In all seriousness, the scale only applies to SciFi/Fantasy/Horror movies, ie. the fun movies.

Plan 9 from Outer Space was at least charming in it's badness, Dracula 3000 is just bad because it wants to HURT you.

    Cut up the 2DA please
You guys need to just...slow down a bit.

First of all, 2DAs are NOT going away. Period. 2DAs are a generic data structure file that are incredibly useful and handy in what is essentially a DATA driven game.

Second, XML is being used to define WHAT and HOW gui elements appear and operate. For example:

hmmm, how do I put the code block in? Someone let me know and I will come back to this point (reserved for futre edit).

As far as complete DOM support and all the W3C nonsense, we aren't making web browsers (which I have done) we are making a game. The bottom line of that is we will take what we need for specific things and move on.
