Here are today's Neverwinter Nights 2 forum highlights, collected by NWVault from Obsidian Forums. Please take into account that these are only single parts of various threads and should not be taken out of context. Bear in mind also that the posts presented here are copied as-is, and that any bad spelling and grammar does not get corrected on our end.

    Custom Character Meshes
Okay, and say you get one of those characters imported. Then what? How do you expect you're going to skin it and then attach any animations to it? Animations are made to go with specific skeletons and specific meshes are skinned around specific skeletons. See where I'm going with this?? It's not always as easy as it sounds...

    More :
In the first Neverwinter Nights, you could create custom characters and animations and I know that there were folks who did it using 3D Studio Max ($3500). Unfortunately, the details on how to do this were vague and I could never figure it out myself.
Okay, so here's the deal...let me break this down for you. First of all, the argument that "you could do it in the first game" doesn't really fly in this case and I'll tell you why as best as I can.

More : That's a pretty spot on assesment. Good job with that one. I just work here, so I can't speak to what the actual plans are for all of this 2 years down the road. Of course I'd love to see people be able to do all of what the original poster wants, but with more advanced technology comes these other hurdles that have to be dealt with. It's unfortunate but that's just the way it goes sometimes. That being said, Shadow was right in that there is nothing concrete one way or the other in terms of being able to get a user created model into the game.

    Experience Penalities for Summons
Here's a small Halloween bonus tidbit of information. Our current plan for summoning is that they are no longer last for 24 hours. But before caster players get too upset, the summoning XP hit will be eliminated. So your summoned pets may not be around forever, but you get all of their yummy XP.

At least that's our current plan, a lot can change from here to 2006.
