Does the Light spell effect stealth?

When you're invisible, you make your hide roll, but unless you cast silence, critters still have a chance of hearing you.
Most of them don't because the default AI makes no listen checks. If the module designer decided to include some non-brain-dead AI this might be changed. :p
It is true that while you may fail your spot check, you may still make your listen check (which will also result in a physical representation of the creature appearing in NWN).

Not sure how the scripted AI handles listen checks my self (most of the AI that was scripted was done by the design team).
So it may be quite possible that the NPC listen checks are not being made for NPCs. If this is the case, I would guess that its probably because if NPCs ran off attacking everything they heard (but couldn't see) people wouldn't like the AI (they would probably be complaining that NPCs keep attacking them when they "couldn't possibly know that they were there").

However, since player characters don't use the scripted AI system they would still get their listen checks. So whether or not you can be spotted/heard also depends on who is trying to detect you, another player or an NPC (and how the AI for the paticular NPC in question was scripted).

Does the Light spell effect stealth?

You can always see an invisiable person whos within about 10ish feet. So listen checks for invisiable people are never made, I have never detected an invisiable person at greater than 10 feet (except when bows gave you see invis ability). The light source effecting hide, I find hard to believe really... I've seen no overall evidence of this in 3 years of play. You can stand infront of someone, with a torch, and strip naked... and as long as you have 1-5 more hide than they have spot... they will never spot you.
Actually the reason invisible people appear when they are within melee range is because you can "hear" them. In NWN you see a visual representation of the person when you can "hear" them. If there was no visual representation of people that you could hear but not see (because of invisibility or blindness) in the game, then you would not be able to target them to attack them. Which would mean that they could continue to beat on you until you were dead, without you being able to do anything about it. Which would make the game very unfun.

Of course in PnP D&D you can always swing around wildly if you hear something in the hopes that you might hit it. That PnP rule doesn't translate too well to a computer game. With regards to hiding: I doubt you took into account all the factors (see my previous post) that affect your ability to spot/hide when doing your illumination test to determine whether or not it affected things.

    Patch 1.66 beta 2 out!

so is there going to be a beta 3 for 1.66?
    There is Click Here
And on that note the beta 2 thread is now obsolete. I believe a new beta 3 thread has already been started. Click Here
