    1.65 status?
1.65 Windows is out now. A proper 1.65 Beta for Linux is coming out this afternoon and another Mac Beta as well. We are confident that both of these Betas will be short and the final Mac and Linux 1.65s will be out in the next few days after we verify the fixes.

md5sums for the two zip files... if that's any help for you.
Just confirming that those MD5s are correct. I have downloaded and extraced both zips without errors. Installed and ran them, too. I would suggest that you try downloading the files again.

That´s really cool :D Quote from the 1.65 beta 2 readme:

Quote: - Choking Powder now properly respects poison immunity (x0_i0_spells.nss).
Since the beta patch did not fix the Choking Powder bug I made a bug report.
There were actually 2 different bugs, and we did fix one of them. Unfortunately, the second one showed up after we had finalled the patch. It is fixed internally and will be in 1.66.

Yes, you can revert to a previous patch. If you really want to know how then just search the archives. There's lots of stuff in there about it. IIRC there's even a post from Georg about it. But from what I remember it's an ugly, labor intensive process that is buggy as hell and highly *not* recommended.

Its a 2 step process that is about as easy as normal patching. We use it all the time during testing. Unless you define downloading a zip file and running NWUpdate as a "ugly, labor intensive process that is buggy as hell". :shake:

    More:
There is no Linux version of the patch. What's up with that?
Another Linux Beta is coming this afternoon to address one small issue. Once that is verified, the final Linux patch will be out in the next few days.

Check out the very fine holiday graphics created by the afro-ed genius of Colin W. right here at BioWare. We wrote up a special page that can be sent to yo' Mamma that has step-by-step instructions so that non-technical Santa in your life can buy you a Gift Code from the store without getting all freaked out.

    online verification

Halflife 2 is a multiplayer, ONLINE game.
Err, no. Halflife 2 shipped without multiplayer mode. The HL2 campaign is a singleplayer only campaign.

Instead they have a steam enabled game executable called CounterStrike 2 which comes free with HL2. They are seperate applications. A few days ago they also released a free deathmatch mod, but that's quite a bit different from a traditional "multiplayer online game".

So no, Halflife 2 is not a multiplayer online game, in fact, NWN is, by definition, more a multiplayer online game than HL2. The premium modules are about as much multiplayer online as the HL2 campaign.

Comparing a single-player game like the premium modules to an online multiplayer game like Halflife 2 is a lot like comparing apples and oranges. They're both round, and both fruit. But that's about it.
One should have eaten both apples and oranges before starting to compare them.

    More:
can you share with us a base dev cost for say... Baldurs gate (or your earliest work) compared to projected costs on NWN or better yet.. Dragons age? Nothing exact.. just whatever you can share with use to show how much more expensive game development is compared to way back when.. For the uninformed ;)
We can't give you these numbers, but comparing the number of names in the credits section of older PC games with newer console or PC games should give you a good idea about that.

    More:
A quick note about the DMCA. By its very nature and according to previous laws the DMCA is both illegal and invalid.
That's something that always comes up on debates like this, but in context of this discussion and forum, it is not important and offtopic. There are a lot of armchair lawyers around on the internet, and in the end, "I read on the internet this was not illegal" will not cut it in court. In most countries, including the US, a law is in effect until challenged and defeated in court.

If this discussion turns into another piracy justification vs. piracy bashing debate, we will lock this threads down. Please take discussions about your countries interlectual property laws somewhere more appropriate. Thank you.

Oh well, it was only 8 bucks part 2

And another thing... this online verification crap is really obnoxious. Here I am getting kilt over and over 'cause I'm stubborn in the character I want to play and the load time is EXCRUCIATING even with DSL. Adding insult to injury are these snide little notifications that my RIGHT to play is being investigated. This is a RPG right? How am I supposed to stay in character while the rythym I've developed over the years is broken and the anti-piracy protection is being waved in my face? Why don't you star scrolling ads in the chat entry bar to completely shatter my mood?

If this is a trial run for the "protection" you mean to use in future releases all I can say is that if you want me to fork over my cash, you're going to have to do a LOT better than this.
The Online verification has only minor impact on the load times. Please get your facts straight before ranting. Unpacking of the module is causing the load time (a feature that would be present regardless of online authentification), the online verification itself takes no more time than connecting to a multiplayer game.

And no, it's not a trial run. Please read carefully through the threads on this topic that already exist on this forum.

    1.65 Available...(Patch Notes Included)

ok the 2 step easy thing dosent work since the update keeps connection to the homepage its not searching the directory ggggggggggrrrrrrrrrr
    1) Make sure you downloaded the right file (for the expansion packs that you have installed) to your NWN directory.

    2) DON'T unzip the file (not really a step).

    3) Run the updater.

The instructions are clearly laid out on the patch page that you downloaded the file from:

    e.g.

It seems that the most common problem with reverting is that people don't read the instuctions. :)

    1.65 Available...(Patch Notes Included)

Derek, I know zombie form didn't give immunities such as critical immunity and sneak immunity (and other undead immunities) in the beta, and I don't want to install the full version until the persistant world I play on catches up, so can you say whether it is fixed in 1.65 or earmarked for 1.66?
No change was made to this in 1.65.

    1.65 FAQ
To avoid the usual same questions this time, some random Q&A regarding 1.65 ...

    Is the patch out?
Yes, it is available through the auto updater.
    What's the excact version number
    1.65.80626

I updated to 1.65 but my server uses 1.64, where is the revert patch?

You can find the files here:

    http://nwn.bioware.com/support/patch.html

The server I'm playing on runs 1.64, can I play with 1.65
No. Client and server need to speak the same language, meaning they need to have the same version. Best wait for your server operator/guild/clan/whatever to announce they made the move to 1.65 before updating.

Downloading aborts at x%, the update server is busy, etc.
Try again a bit later. NWN is a popular game and a lot of people jump to get the latest patch when they find out it is available.

Where is the <standalone server / mac version / linux version / my language version / etc>
As every patch, all version of the patch will gradually become available on the NWN patch website ( http://nwn.bioware.com/support/patch.html ) and through the auto updater (where applicable). Some releases take a bit longer to build and may not become available the same day as the windows client patches. No worries, everyone will be served

The Windows standalone server 1.65 is available here:

I get a client server version mismatch error in multiplayer
Your server has not been updated to 1.65 while you have or the other way around. Either wait for your server to update or reverse your patch.

I really need to go back to 1.64 to play on my server for now, how does that revert patch thing work?
The revert procedure, if you really want to do it, works as follows:

    - Download the correct .zip file for your game version (pay attention the expansion packs you have installed, there are different files for each possible combination).

    - Do NOT unzip it, just put the zip file in the root of your NWN installation.

    - Run the updater and press update. it will find the .zip and revert.

    - Delete the .zip file out of your NWN directory.

How old is too old to play this game

Have you any insight of wisdow to share with us younger ones, O oracles of the Neverwinter Forum? Powers that be, would you share the knowlodgment that you acquired through the ages, being lichs and baelnorns? I beg of you, give us some light! ;)
Actually, I'm only 22 to be perfectly honest, but I can throw in my two cents anyways. ;)

Ultimately, the key to good roleplay is just sticking in character and showing a little common sense/common courtesy to the people you play with. There really isn't a great deal more to it. Those were my only goals when I played on Neverwinterconnections.com (AlexanderFrost).

    Longbow
Attacks per round are the same as they are with melee weapons. A higher BAB will result in more attacks, as will effects such as Haste. Using the Rapid Shot feat will allow you to make an extra attack per turn, but all attacks suffer a -2 penalty.
