Here are today's Neverwinter Nights forum highlights, collected by NWVault. Please take into account that these are only single parts of various threads and should not be taken out of context. Bear in mind also that the posts presented here are copied as-is, and that any bad spelling and grammar does not get corrected on our end.

AGP only? What about PCI Express?

I found out that Neverwinter Nights will only operate on an AGP graphics card.
Since this is not true, how did you "find this out"? There is nothing in NWN that has that low level of coding. It would be like saying NWN only runs on ECC DDR memory.

30 Nov 2005 - The Contest That Might Become Your Career
Ace questions on a better 3500 word count definition and the use of journals. I'll check with our resident BioWare A-thor-i-tie Kevin B and see what he has to say.

More: Here are some answers to questions. We will be updating the contest page with these details soon:

    1) The writer can use Persuade or Charm, but not as a character skill-based game action. Rather, simply provide the (success) and (failure) options right in the dialogue box, so that they can be explored by the reviewer, not “played through”.

2)3500 for the entire module. This is not a hard word count…it should be the writer’s target. The actual word count can come in a little high or low and this will not affect the review of a really good piece of writing.

3)Journal entries are encouraged. They should be short and simple. They count against the word limit.

More: Good question actually. I'm not a scripter but actually the main thing to keep in mind is if someone who is new to your story is reading through your work will they find all the paths to easily see all the facets of your work or is it trouble to view everything?

We have many modules that are submitted that have 20 minutes of opening combat which then never see the light of day because the reviewers simply do not have time. What we hoping is that people will also make reviewing their story easy so the reviewers can see the writing without too much trouble.

More: Contest page has been updated with new stuff. Ding!

    Shadowguard, end?
    Hi everyone,

This is a very sensitive and ongoing issue and we definitely feel (and share) your pain. Our original intent was to introduce these new series and see them through to completion but, for various reasons I can't go into, we've had to back away from those initial plans. Stefan Gagne's Hex C0da, as many of you know, had to be canceled and other internally and externally developed titles continue to face similar issues.

A sequel to one of the initial 3 modules is in production, albeit much-delayed, and sequels to the other 2 may still be possible at some future time. That said, the odds get thinner every day and they've been doing so for over a year, now.

Pirates of the Sword Coast and our still unannounced upcoming title represent a reboot, of sorts. They're great modules, they're larger than our initial offerings, and they bring a lot of exciting new content to the table. While we've faced all manner of unexpected barriers in realizing our initial vision, we've learned a lot about the process and remain committed to delivering quality NWN content to the community. The Live Team continues to press forward and, despite the hiccups, the community continues to benefit from our efforts. 2006 will see an increase in store activity as a number of our current efforts begin to bear fruit.

PotSC: Need help with treasure maps
Yes, please post to the tech support forum where Jason Barlowe ought to be able to help you out. If I remember correctly, however, I think this had something to do with exporting and reimporting your PotSC character or something of that sort.

    Multiplayer issue - cannot host

Firewalls are off (all background programs are off).
Some firewalls run on driver level and can not be shut off by terminating a process in the task manager, so make sure to double check the actual firewall interface.

    Other steps:

    - Use the dedicated server instead of the "host multiplayer game" option in game.

    - Check your server IP in the server console, sometimes you may find that it bound itself to a different IP on your computer (i.e. the firewire interface).

    - Try to ping that ip on the command prompt to find out if the interface is responding.

    Rivium Source Release
I'll give it a try on the weekend :)

    NPC Mages having IGMS war
If you are just in for the visuals, try ActionCastFakeSpell instead, much lower overhead and resource consumption.
