    1.64 interesting results
    The .ini entry is "Max Memory Usage=XXXX". I'm not in the office right now, so I can't tell you what exactly you have to put in for XXXX, Craig probably remembers, otherwise I'll try to look it up on monday. The subnet profiling option is "Enable SubNet Profiling=X" where X can be 0 (default) or 1

    Does de 1.64..... ?
    This was used to cause severe trouble, regardless of ELC. It's unfortunate that some things had to be changed as a result of a few jerks exploiting them, but if we have to make a decision between adding features, fixing exploits or bugs in NWN and keeping compatibility with third party applications, we will always decide pro NWN. I won't go further into this topic as there are still enough 1.62 servers out there - I hope you can understand this. For this particular problem, there are other solutions (i.e. feats) that achieve the same effect but without the potential for exploitation.

    Did 1.64 include some changes to the "fog"?
    I think there were some changes made to the fog to make skyboxes blend in smoother.

    FYI: Possibly NWNX Linux fix for 1.64
    Good to know :) So much for crying wolf about mprotect which was apparently working as intended (by protecting memory that NWNX didn't have anything to mess around with anyway). Anyway, great that this is solved and the linux/nwnx2 servers can join the ranks of 1.64 :)

    Dedicated Server
    The one thing all dedicated servers have in common is that their video card doesn't matter at all. You might want to look at things like

    * fast quality memory
    * a harddrive with a large cache and fast access times
    * a decent networking card

    what you don't care about is
    * sound
    * graphics

    Special Abilities after 1.64
    A couple of thoughts.

    - Monster abilities are just feats in feats.2da, the ToolsetCategory makes them look different in the toolset, but behind the scenes they are just feats

    - Some monster ability scripts are specific to the creature using them, so adding these abilities to a player will cause bad things, you will need to write a new script.

    - If your server 2da files say it is legal (i.e, adding an existing monster ability to the proper CLS_FEAT_*) 2da, these feats can be used on a character. Depeding on your CLS_FEAT_* entry, the feat will be auto given at a certain level or can be picked on level up. In most cases, you do not even need to modify feats.2da (shudder) for this.

    - For race based feats, check the RACE_FEAT_* 2da files.

    - For many monster ability, adding them to a new class or

    The 2da section at http://ccg.dladventures.com has a bit more information on the relationship between feats and spells.

    hope that helps.

    Bug Reports
    Hey,

    Bug reports on the forums are ignored.

    Please submit bugs to nwbugs@bioware.com, including the version number of your game, information on your hardware, installed expansion packs as well as how to reproduce the problem.

    Beta Testing

    On that issue I have to agree with you. Sliping changes between the last beta and the release kind of contradicts the beta testing paradigma.
    Just to put this clear:

    The reason why we do beta testing is to catch things that our internal QA or Atari might have missed or that show up on hardware that is not used by QA, it is NOT to ensure interoperability with third party applications or to give heads up people creating or using third party applications.

    We would never delay the release of a patch because it causes problems for third party applications. If you had sent us a bug report "NWNX for linux breaks with the beta", we would have discarded it as NWNX is not a BioWare product.

    As for the problem discussed in this thread, all the buzz created by some of the friendly armchair developers here ("Uh no, BioWare suddenly uses mprotect and locks out NWNX", "quick and dirty fixes", etc) and cries for BioWare intervention were a bit premature - a call in NWNX relied on data being at a certain location in memory (which wasn't true for the new binary) and accessed it, thus causing mprotect to send SIGSEGV.

    They could always release a 4th beta for it.
    There was no need to. Just because some people jumped the gun and claimed there have been major changes after Beta 3 doesn't mean that is true.
