Here are today's Neverwinter Nights forum highlights, collected by NWVault. Please take into account that these are only single parts of various threads and should not be taken out of context. Bear in mind also that the posts presented here are copied as-is, and that any bad spelling and grammar does not get corrected on our end.

    NWN.. D&D 3.25?
There will be no core rule changes to NWN.

    1.64 Beta 2 available.
1.64 Beta 3 is coming next week.

    More:
With or without a linux server?
At this time, without any Linux version. Still having problems getting it to work right, but progress is being made.

    Windows Service pack 2 bugg?

Okay, here's what I'm getting after 'upgrading' to XP SR 2 - when I run the Toolset, I see: 'Could not create 3D preview window. Please check that you are running the latest drivers for your video card. This program will now exit.'
We have been testing with SP2 here and haven't found any issues. Please let me be clear that we are not denying that there is a problem, just stating that we haven't been able to duplicate it yet. Is this under Home or Pro? Have you tried reinstalling DirectX after SP2? Have you tried reinstalling your video drivers after DirectX, after SP2?

    1.64 Beta DD hints
We've been discussing our DD plans for a while now on the old Witch's Wake boards. There are some lengthy threads there that go over the pros and cons of Digital Distribution quite thoroughly and also put a number of fears to rest. Just to provide a brief summary, however, let me clarify:

(*) The goal of DD is to provide sufficient funding to expand the size and presence of the Live Team within the BioWare community. With sufficient funding and manpower, there are some very cool things we can do for the community.
(*) We've tried releasing content for free (Witch's Wake 1, Kobolds & Gnolls, etc) and, by itself, it just hasn't been sustainable over the longer term. We will continue to provide free content to the community (we actually intend to provide far more of it than we have in the past) but we will fund the development and delivery of that content through DD sales.
(*) With greater support and involvement from the Live Team, we actually expect to see a new surge in the amount and quality of free community-made content available on NWVault and elsewhere. If DD is successful, everyone benefits and the NWN community remains active and vibrant well into the future.
(*) If DD is successful, it will have a definite impact on the level of community support (including tools and mod-focused design elements) offered by Dragon Age and other future BioWare titles. If such features are seen only as expensive moneysinks, they'll be cut.

I recognize that people's initial knee-jerk reaction to the DD concept is often a negative one. I encourage everyone to step back and think about what's what's best, both for them as individual players/builders/DMs and also for the community at large. What it basically comes down to is that the onus is on us to develop something worth paying for. Personally, I'm pretty confident that we've done so. I hope that puts things into perspective a little.

    NWN.. D&D 3.25?
NWN is based on the 3.0 license of the rules. It will stay on the 3.0 license of the rules. I heard NWN 2 will probably use 3.5.

    Compiling Includes only

Include files are not really ever compiled. Only files with a main() or StartingConditional() are.
Aye. I was talking of the nss files which do have main() functions and which #include the function scripts I modify frequently. Actually, I've no problem with these functions being in separate, compilable script files (except for the problem of not being able to return a value ... which you can perform a kludge on by storing the return value on the object being passed (call it "RetVal") and can be of varying types). It's just that I want to put them in a single nss file for maintenance and organizational purposes.
Yea, that's a very handy method, I used that to make the whole spell hook / umd stuff for HotU, so people can make changes to the code without having to recompile every single spell.

Sleep Effect on Weapons : Broken in 1.62?

Does this mean that patch v1.64 will not be the last? There has been some speculation that after v1.64 support would taper off... or even stop abruptly. If on-going support IS the plan, that's good to hear.
We plan on continuing to support Neverwinter Nights in the future, so 1.64 will not be the last patch. Not sure how that rumor started, but it doesn't seem to be going away for some reason. So I say again, our current plans are that 1.64 will NOT be the last patch for NWN. Who ever told you that was misinformed.

However that being said, plans can always change and frequently have in the past. In this case I think it would be rather unlikely that this would change, since we have lots of cool things planned for NWN that we are working on (although there isn't much more that I can say about that at the moment [IMG] ).
