[IMG] We have The Playground, but people don't seem too inclined to discuss other CRPGs they're playing there. So I was thinking about setting up a forum solely for discussion of CRPGs not covered on Sorcerer's Place, in hopes that it'd get more of you posting there, rather than having to wander out into the cold, barren wastes of other websites, instead of staying in the warm embrace of our boards.

So let's hear your opinions. Would you be more inclined to discuss other CRPGs you're playing here if there was a separate forum for just CRPGs in addition to The Playground?

Hmm, I'm not convinced it would make that much difference. But I guess it couldn't do any harm.

Meh. Like I need any encouraging. ;)
I'll talk about other games in threads others start, but I probably wouldn't start my own so I don't care.

No here. I don't see a point of having 2 "other games" related forums.

Hmm, forums for certain platforms would be good. You know, Playstation 1, 2 PSP all in one and one for Xbox consoles?

Maybe that would be too much work though, I don't know

I don't play any CRPGs that aren't covered here with there own thread, so it wouldn't make any difference to me.

It might. I've started Arcanum, and as such wasn't planning on posting anything about it here. For some reason I don't consider Playground to be the place to start a completely random thread on a game, unless I have something specific in mind. But that's just me.

I remember doing searches when I wanted to find something about a cRPG game. I think we do post about major non-SP-covered cRPGs here and sometimes it takes effort to dig up the right thing, but I wonder if the Playground forum wouldn't become a desert if you were to make one specifically for cRPGs.

I have never actually played any non SP CRPGs (if you don't count those dodgy old adventure games where you had to actually type in your dialog with NPCs and if it wasn't phrased exactly right, it wouldn't work)

I don't think so. But then I'm not playing any cRPG's not covered here. I have played Arcanum and when someone started a thread about it have added my bit.

On the otherhand (I love to contradict myself) if we had a separate generic cRPG thread people might post about the games they are playing and I might find something that interests me. It's because of the PS/T forum here I started playing it.

However I think it should be strictly limited to discussion of the cRPG's- no games, no funny business,; just the facts, sir.

No for me. RTS games aside, nothing besides crpg's are really mentioned in the playground on a regular basis... well that ive noticed anyway. I dont think another forum is necessary. Specializing is good, but only to a point. Having a forum for every genre of game or consol would, imho, be a tragic waste of space and resources.

Edit: Sorry for straying. No, i would not be more inclined.

Stick to my original question please, that's the only thing that's being considered.

Hmm - I don't think I'm opposed to this - though it would depend a lot on what kinds of things people posted there...

What I'd be interested in seeing would be stuff like RPG Codex's discussions, except in the environment of SP (Codex is great for reading and all - but there's a lot of waffle and it's not somewhere I want to post) - I'm not saying the hardcore elitist side of the Codex, but the intelligent discussion of RPGs and how better ones could be made. In that I would certainly post.

Of course - that probably won't happen, because that's not the vibe SP gives off. Put my opinion down as 'cautiously favourable', anyway.

I think it could help encouraging other SPers to share their ideas and opinions on other CRPGs more frequently, rather than just posting the occassional question. Who knows, Tal? You may need to open a separate forum for Fallout and Arcanum soon. :thumb:

I don't think so. I feel The Playground covers well. I haven't felt the need to discuss any other CRPGs there for several reasons:

They are already talked about elsewhere on SP (BG, IWD, NWN).

The game, though great imo, isn't everyone's cup of tea (RuneScape, MechWarrior, SMAC).

I can't get it to run to play (Yoda Stories).

[IMG] Well, I've decided to go ahead with it. The new forum will include all kinds of CRPG and MMORPG discussions, about specific games not covered on SP (and for general topics encompassing multiple games we cover), as well as general CRPG/MMORPG discussion.

The only question now is what to name it. Post your suggestions...
