[IMG] I am starting a new group with a single class mage as my main character.

I was thinking of having as the main group

    Minsc, silver sword
    Jaheira, Impaler spear
    Anomen, crom faeyr
    Imoen, celestial fury
    Keldorn, have a guess

All classes are catered for and all the best weapons are used (most of them), does anyone have any ideas how I could make it more interesting, seeing as all my NPC's are of good alignment? I was thinking of HD to add a little spice

I see why You don't use spellcasters a lot.And need healing badly. Its seems to me that You take on every battle in close combat. Head on!! Brave I must say. I would at least have Imoen using a bow here. Then she can also stand in the back casting spells.
Just one thought of many :)

You seem to know a lot about the game. But have You tried the Tuigan Bow (beastmaster in coppercoronet, back stage.) It is very fast. There are also some nice throwing daggers around. If You are interested I can look their position up.

Adding Haer'Dalis would be good, he gets two cool swords, Chaos and Entropy. I've never had the guy before but I've heard Anomen can fail his quest for Knighthood and change his alignment for Chaotic Neutral I think. This could be interesting with Keldorn in your party. A little chaos never hurt anybody...

That's prolly the best whack and slash party (Korgan is evil) that can be assembled - except for the main char, since he's a mage.

If you want to take HD, he will only add some fun and good dialogue - because everyone alse in your party is better that him at warfare (I didn't say fighting because your mage is a better caster than him).

As for the fun part, you might want to use all major classes only once (2E D&D) - Thief (Imo), Druid (Jah), Fighter (Jah,), Ranger (Min), Paladin (Kel), Cleric (Ano), Mage (Imo), Bard (HD).

Because you already have a fighter (Jaheira), drop that whining s.o.b. Anomen and then take HD and a Priest of Lathander as a main char. :D

My fav tank party consited of my PC, a halfling cavalier (C`Fury/ FOTA/ Namarra), Minsc (Wave or Dragonsbreath/ Warblade/ Longbow), Kheldorn (Carsomyr/ heavy Crossbow), Jaheira (Sling of Everard/ mace +3 from ztrademeet/ Belm), Mazzy (Tansherons and later Gesen´s Bow, Cutthroat) and Imoen (Firetooth/ flamethounge; using a buckler to improve AC).

The groups strengths were: Very good average AC, enough healing (jaheira was actually a healer-fighter), good melee strength and very good ranged weapon punch - I only had to reload the Kangaxx fight (a few times) on my way through the game. Really nice to play.

In my opinion, 1 dual-classed mage isn't good for a whole party. You need at least another dualed mage and better is a pure mage to remove protections, cast fireballs/protections etc. A second thing is you don't have the Staff of Rymn/Staff of Magi for a character. So my advice is to get another mage and let him use staff/sling and of course the spellcasting.

And about Imoen, let her indeed play with the Tuigan's Bow early in the game and with the Gesen Bow after you're back from the Underdark.

[IMG] A couple of posters complained about lack of spellcasters.

    - Mage (protagonist)
    - Mage (Imoen)
    - Cleric (Anomen)
    - Druid (Jaheira)
    - Ranger (Minsc - gets a few spells as Ranger)

There is so much healing potential in this party I can't believe someone as clever as Nobleman says it needs more. Hey Nobleman, please explain what you meant!

IMO you have a well-rounded party there, TBurma316. My only objection is that it's too big. Using 4-5 members instead of 6 has some nice advantages.
You only mentioned the melee weapons and thus it's easy to focus on that and forget that they also have missile weapons.

Here is an alternative - not necessarily best :p - weapon distribution idea. IIRC all the following weapons are available before leaving Athkatla!:
    - Protagonist mage: Staff of Power (fat chance, you'll perhaps settle for Staff of Rhynn instead.) & Darts of whatever you have. :)
    - Minsc: Celestial Fury (he can spend two proficiency slots on katana pretty soon.) & Heartseeker +3.
    - Jaheira: Club +3, Blackblood & Sling of Everard.
    - Anomen: Mace of Disruption +2 & Sling of Seeking.
    - Imoen: Staff of the Magi & Tansheron's Bow.
    - Keldorn: Daystar (get to use a shield, but I realize that he'll scream and beg for Carsomyr until you give it to him...) & Tuigan Bow.

I have got a lot of good ideas from this post. What I have understood is my party is very melee orientated with 4 "tanks", I mainly included them because I didn't want the weapons to go to waste.
One rule I have on my group is Minsc, Jaheira, and Imoen HAVE to go. It adds a little more continuity to the story. Which leaves 2 spaces for less melee driven characters, any ideas?

Imoen isn't really a tank. She's much at the back of the party casting spells, and after casting a spell you haven't time to run to the other fighters so she will fight much wich sort bow/tuigan's bow. Again, I would advice another mage, the best is a pure mage, you'll find out 2 mages to be very useful.

Tanks like Minsc and Kheldorn aren´t nessesarily melee oriented. Some typical layouts for my tanks are:
Keldorn uses a ranged weapon - the crossbow beside Carsomyr; Minsc has the longbow besides Lilarcor; Jaheira has sling of Everard and her mace - so you can easily use them depending on battleground in melee or with ranged weapons. All these chars have pretty good ranged weapon abilities. So melee oriented is the wrong term and point of view for a tank.

Despite that, Mazzy is the only tank that is ranged weapon specialised.

isn't keldorn skilled in the use of the crossbow?..also, jeheira (was that right?) makes a decent tank if you give her that cool club...can't remember it's name..but it is good! and if you give her a big shield and some armour she can have a great AC
