[IMG] Okay, having played through fallout 1 & 2 now, and having absolutely no new games left worth my time, AND having played Baldur's Gate so much that I finally can't even get past character creation anymore (amazing innit! ) I decided to go back and try and play through PS:T for a second time.

Now it's AGES since I played this game last time, so i pretty much can't remember anything but the main plot (and roughly at that).
Now last time (I think) I went through pretty much as a pure fighter, so this time I figured I'd go through as a Mage, and an evil one at that.
Now, seeing as it's so long since I played the game last time, I would very much like some inputs on the character built I am considering:

    STATS:
    STR 9
    DEX 13
    CON 9
INT 13 (with specialization bonus and the mage tattoo I should be set on int right?)
WIS 17 (using +WIS tattoo untill I get the last points)
    CHR 14

And then just put points into either strength or constitution at level ups. Should I add some more dexterity? And regarding strength, isn't there something about that beyond 18 you spent your points on extraordinary strength points (18/xx) and should wait for a NPC to take your strength to 19 before increasing it beyond 18 to avoid wasting points?

    LEVEL PROGRESSION:
    ftr 6
    mage 7
    ftr 9
    thf 10
    mage X

I believe this is the max HP setup, no?

Regarding NPCs I was thinking along something along the lines of: Morte, Dak'kon (mostly for RPing and the circle), Annah, Fall and Nordom.
IIRC though Ignus can grand you some fire resistance and some spells (right?) so I plan on picking him up, use him and then dump him .

And lastly, which mods would you recommend (I'm already planning on resolutions mod).

[IMG] If you have 18WIS at the start, you will get 25 WIS by the end o/t game. So if you advance in WIS on level ups, you'll waste bonuses in the late game. This way I didn't have to consider whether to advance in WIS.
I went for 9-9-9-15-18-15, but i failed DEX checks in dialogue, so maybe your plan is better.:thumb:
Can you explain the 10th lvl thief? You know that advancing in thief will put you even further behind if you want to reach lvl 12 mage before a certain point in the game, right?
The strength thing shouldn't be too difficult, there are lots of STR bonuses, so just wait around when you have 18STR...
The only mod I don't recommend, is the G3PSTweak-v1, because it crashed my installation, and is probably incompatible. It doesn't do much important stuff anyway. For the rest, add to your liking.:)

DEX 13 is a good idea, as there are quite a few dialogue checks that require this in the early game.

If you're going for the Mage specialisaton bonus then what your starting stats are perfect. The INT bonuses combined with the tattoo will push it to at least 19 by the end game, which is more than you really need. Your WIS will be at 25 not that far into the game as well with the help of tattoos and will hit the max without them by the end. If you're going for a Mage you don't need to boost CHA any higher, as you'll have Friends and can use this (multiple castings stack on top of each other).

Therefore you've got the right idea - put your level-up points into the physical stats. You can give it a few more DEX points if you want, it doesn't really matter. As for STR just make sure it's at 16, 17 or 18 before getting the big STR bonus from the NPC (I'll keep this spoiler-free), though remember you need to be super-lawful to get the max effect from that NPC.

Level 10 thief is needed for the maxp HP setup, not to mention that putting points in your Thief skills will give you some nice extra options with Annah.

As for mods, you should definitely get a fixpack (either Platter's or Qwinn's. The latter is more up to date). You can also get Qwinn's Unfinished Business since you've already played through the game. Most of the stuff in that mod (the Candlestick Quest, party banters, Morte's original into and so on) were all in the game files, but they were just never activated, so the extras fit flawlessly with the rest of the game.

We're talking about a certain jailed NPC who shouldn't be reminded that he wants to kill you, right? :p

The reason I go with 17 WIS at the start is to get better all-round stats. I'm gonna place a single extra point in wis at level up so I get 18, and then use the +2 wis tattoo untill when I get the last two points in the fortress.
Thief is really painless to level and will open up extra stuff with Annah as well as giving me the highest possible hit points.

    That one.

At least don't remind him until after you've had your STR bonus. One way you could remind him:

Have Vhailor within hearing range when you ask the Pillar of Skulls "What am I"? The Pillar's answer will trigger his memory.

You don't even need to place that one point in WIS. The Mage specialisation bonuses also boost 1 point into WIS, so starting at 17 means that you get to 25 by the end of the game even without any of the tattoos.

The amount of XP needed to get the Thief to level 10 is chickenfeed compared to going from Mage 11 to 12 anyway, so go ahead and do it. Besides there are a few things that can give XP only to the thief (with Nordom, but also some of the memories from tattoos) so you'll get there very quickly.

I much prefer dealing with him in the following way if I have Nordom.
Get the STR bonus from him and then start the metaphysical talk about Good and Evil. You get at one point the "Truth: I disagree" option, and if you follow this you can get him to realise that there is no point in him continuing to live as a suit of armour. He'll "die" and you get massive XP for this.

I recommend starting with 14 con, you'll have 10 hitpoints more than if you raise it from 9 later.

    Olimikrig:

I'm honored you've decided to play with my mods :) And your game will go fine if you proceed as you are, but I would like to point out that it might be worth waiting till the next release.

Some things that will be coming out in the next release:

Dak'kon will actually get to gain and keep the Streaming or Kinstealer versions of his sword

Locks in the game will be un-nerfed, making the skill actually useful/needed. The prybar will actually help bashing locks, too.

Three new UB components, including 15 restored fully voiced banters, 27 new voiced flirts between Morte and zombies, Restored Mebbeth dialogue, and a brand new Expanded Deionarra mod that will allow you to access some unfinished stuff in game and will have a nice prize too.

Another sizable batch of bug fixes. This thread has details on what you can expect:

    http://www.shsforums.net/index.php?showtopic=35981

How long will you have to wait for it though? Unfortunately I don't think I can get it out till around Thanksgiving... up to you if you don't want to wait for any of that, but thought you (and anyone else starting a game soon) might want to be made aware just in case.

I don't expect any major updates after version 3.0, at least not for a good while.

    Qwinn

    ---------- Added 0 hours, 7 minutes and 40 seconds later... ----------

BTW, your build is good, but I recommend going with 16 INT and 11 CHA to start, then pump CHA up to 13 on your first couple levelups. You will miss out on some early game INT-based xp bonuses otherwise.

Thanksgiving is like late November or something, isn't it? I don't think I'll have the patience to wait that long, but I just might give it go again when it gets released.

That might be an idea. I really don't want to miss out on any of the dialogue goodies, but don't want to end up 'wasting' stat points either. I'll have to ponder on this!

If your strength is 18 and you take the 7th level bonus as a fighter, it will boost directly to 19.

Sure, but then I'll miss out on the 2nd Mage specialization bonus and the tattoo.

Well gotten started. Pretty damn hard to be lawful and evil at the same time :p. Evil in itself is pretty straight forward, the problems arise because most of the really evil options are usually pretty chaotic as well.
The Scale of Souls thing is pretty useful to keep track of it though, only problem is that I find myself checking it after every single conversation, hehe (atm I'm -11 on the evil/good axis and +2 on the chaos/law axis - so still true neutral, but should change to neutral evil soonish). Currently 5 fighter/4 Mage, taking Fighter 6 and then I'm gonna finnish the Circle of Zerthimon which should bring me up on level 5 as a Mage and then try and get to level 7 ASAP.

Glad you like the Scale, you're the first person who's ever commented on it, heheh, I was wondering if anyone in the world used it besides me.

It's possible that in future versions, the Scale will be replaced by simply displaying the good and lawful numerical ratings in the text box when you mouse over the alignment button on the character screen.

Heh, only 'complaint' I have about the scale is that I found myself using it after almost every single conversation :p. Seriously though, a way to show chaos/law and good/evil nummerically was something I really missed in PS:T, and the Scale was a much appreciated addition.

That would be awesome. Using the Scale all the time tends to get a little... tedious towards the end ;).

I would recommend Armors mod as well, having Annah look like a Mech, Dak'kon like a godsmen gaurd and TNO as a curst gaurd, certainly makes your party appear more intimidating
