Ok, simple question ... I've been playing BG2 for a while now, love it! How-some-ever, should I start with BG1 before getting way into BG2, or is it ok to finish BG2 before going into BG1?

  2. Actually, if you want to whole story, nothin confusing, you should do BG1 before BG2. But if you don't and you go back into BG1, you won't be too encourged because BG1 is err... a bit un advanced...

But who cares if it is "unadvanced"? BG1 is awesome, but I don't think you should stop in the middle of another game just to play it. It will probably just make everything confusing.

Another thread concerning roughly the same subject.

Well, my opinion in this situation in particular is that you should play BG1 first, if you don't mind interrupting your current game.

But whatever you decide, don't miss this one, it's one of the best games ever made!

BG is an excellent game. I suggest you to play it. You then follow the story from the very beginning, and play another great game. It also makes your character more interesting for then you followed him from the beginning, from kid to adventurer.... in BG2 you already are a great adventurer, the first levels are very important to get a bit more close with your char. And this game is rather cheap now, so go for it. It's like BG2 but then on a lower level, with less good items and less hard enemies. More the basics of D&D.... You won't regret it!

Ok, I went out and bought BG1. I like it a lot! I want to play as a Bard, and take my character through to BG2.

However, I start out as a Bard with 8 (count 'em,, 8) hit points! Wowsers! So far, BG1 is harder than BG2.

[IMG] Hard but fun as hell! I like the town layouts better in BG1. Much more residents to smack around.

I kinda like the more free-form wandering around in the woods feel of BG1. It could easily turn out to be more fun than BG2.

Bp: It's tough going back to Bg1. I played through Bg2 before checking out Bg1. The interface is much tweaked over part 1, and you'll miss it. I personally like being able to access the inventory while the game is *paused*.

But I think the story is a little better.

Hehe, I played BG2 and after that Bg again and of course it takes an hour to play to get used at the BG-layout again but the game is great and I also like the free wandering in the wilderness, in BG2, you only have area's where you have a real goal...

8 hit points? then you are lucky ;)

That would be indeed an interesting game Sniper! :)
And another good point in BG: the music is much better than in the second part!

There are much more twists in BGI. The story of SoA isn't bad, but sometimes it's a little simple.

Here's a question: since in BG1 the characters start out at so low a level, does it make sense to dual or multi class? How high of a level can you get as a multi?

Wouldn't it be better to try to get your char leveled up as soon as possible?

No, not really... The game difficulty is set according to the low level you and your party are. You don't need to be super high level in order to finish the game at all. And multiclassing is generally a good idea.

Man you're quick! How 'bout this one:

I created a multi Gnome Illusionist/Thief, and it looks like I can use crossbows, even though neither the Thief nor the Mage can use 'em.

    Bug?

[IMG] Hm. Funny. It's not in the tables as usuable by thieves, and neither is it in the BG2 booklet. But I had Jan in my party in BG2 (he's a gnome NPC) and he uses a crossbow alright. It could be that it's simply an error in the manuals, that thieves were left out. (Actually, this must be it. I just checked my Imoen and she has one star in crossbow too.)

Kinda weird they didn't fix this in either of the manuals though.
