[IMG] Anyway, I'm starting BG1 all over again for the ump-teenth time. I want to start a human fighter and dual class to a cleric at level six and carry that character on through the TotSC and BG2 (and maybe BG2:ToB).

However, when creating my character I put two stars into the long sword proficiencies slot and it wasn't until I got to the Friendly Arm Inn that I got thinking that was probably a dumb thing to do...

Once my character reaches a level seven cleric and my fighter skills kick back in, will I even be able to use a sword? Or will my spells be disabled if I do use a sword, or what? I've searched different BG sites but couldn't find the answer spelled out anywhere.

Any advice for how weapon prof. slots should be selected for someone trying out this route? I really want to build a character I'm happy with and won't feel the need to start over from scratch halfway through Chapter 3. Thanks, you can start laughing at me now. :)

[IMG] Well you're right about that being a bit stupid, since dual fighter/clerics are restricted to weapons clerics can use, so alas, no swords.

When the fighter skills kick back in, you should still have those two stars in swords, but you won't be able to use them at all(AFAIK).

So as a cleric, the weapons in BG1 you can use are club, flail, mace, morning star, quarterstaff and war hammer.

I recommend you choose war hammer which is pretty much the weapon of choice for me when I play fighter/clerics. There are some good ones in BG, plus in BG2 especially. You can also use a shield with that weapon, so even better.

As for fixing the stars you've wasted... You can either start the game anew or go to http://www.sorcerers.net/Games/BG/index_editors.php and download Gatekeeper which will let you redistribute those stars. Simply take the two from swords away and put them into war hammers. Just don't cheat and give yourself 5 stars in everything. ;)

I think that when you import your character to bg2, you will be able to redistribute some of the stars. There are many more weaponclasses now. I have a paladin with 2 stars in large swords, but this covers both long swords, scimitars, bastard swords and twohanded swords in bg2.

This being said, I haven't imported a character yet, so maybe I am wrong.

[IMG] NO you are right on the money. You do have to reassign stars due to the new breakout for skills. Plus you have the option of picking a kit for your characher.
