I am new to this game. Having played through the BG series and Pen & Paper 3E D&D campaigns, I am not new, however, to its mechanics.

I want to play through the game pretty quickly to get a grip on what it is about. My main character will be a tank Human fighter by the name of Cloden.

Any and all suggestions on who/what should accompany Cloden as his party members (and Cloden himself) are being requested here. Bear in mind that I want to get through this game as quickly as possible and all powergaming possiblilities should also be suggested.

    Thanks in advance,

    Corbulo

I'd just go with a 6 character party. You get the same XP as if you were playing with 4 characters, because of the challenge-XP system. For further info on this, check the boards.

So make your main character a Half-orc fighter 4/Barbarian x and let him wield a Greatsword.
Now get a Deep gnome monk. Let him fight with his fists, he will be VERY powerfull later on. Pick either a druid of cleric for the healing. I prefer a druid, since he is lots more fun to play, has better offensive spells and can shapeshift, what can be usefull from time to time. You also got to have a thief. Make him a Fighter/rogue. I suggest Rogue 10/ Fighter x. 10 levels of rogue will give you improved evasion wich is GREAT. Now pick a sorcerer. He is also a must have. For your sixth character it's up to you. Either choose a spellsword or a secundairy fighter.
Good luck, and by the way, there is lot of party info on the boards, look around

My party was as follows at the beginning:

Paladin of Helm - Aasimar - LG
    STR 14 DEX 12 CON 18 INT 3 WIS 13 CHA 20
Use long sword and hammer. Diplomacy is the skill.

Barbarian - Shield Dwarf - CE
    STR 17 DEX 14 CON 20 INT 3 WIS 11 CHA 11
Use greataxe. Intimidate all the way.

    Diviner - Drow - NE
    STR 10 DEX 20 CON 16 INT 19 WIS 10 CHA 5

    Rogue - Tiefling - CE
    STR 10 DEX 20 CON 18 INT 19 WIS 10 CHA 1

Stormlord of Talos - Aasimar - NE
    STR 16 DEX 18 CON 18 INT 3 WIS 18 CHA 7

Monk of the Old Order - Human - LN
    STR 16 DEX 18 CON 18 INT 3 WIS 18 CHA 3
    _________________________________________________

I have beaten the game and now playing HoF. They are(stats are with +stat items):

    Paladin of Helm 16/Fighter 4
    STR 17 DEX 14 CON 18 INT 3 WIS 16 CHA 27

    Barbarian 17/Fighter 4
    STR 21 DEX 14 CON 24 INT 3 WIS 12 CHA 12

    Diviner 19
    STR 12 DEX 22 CON 18 INT 22 WIS 10 CHA 5

    Rogue 10/Wizard 9(will get wizard to 17)
    STR 12 DEX 29 CON 18 INT 20 WIS 10 CHA 3

    Stormlord of Talos 20
    STR 16 DEX 21 CON 22 INT 3 WIS 24 CHA 8

Monk of the Old Order 21(druid from now on??)
    STR 17 DEX 18 CON 18 INT 3 WIS 26 CHA 3

Whatever you do, be sure your alignment is evil(at least more than half as mine) unless you like to watch your party butchered by monsters.(Blasphemy)
The group above was able to kill İsair and Madae so easily that none of them went down half hitpoints. Actually, 5 horrid wilting was enough to make İsair flee :D

I can't see a Ranger in those parties, a ranger multiclass whith rogue and fighter can act as a fighter, scout, thief, spellcaster and archer!

Rather than starting an other post like this on the boards, there are plenty of them already (not that I really mind, however)

If you want a nice addon to your party, believe it or not, you might pick a druid. They are pretty darn powerfull in IWD2. Search for Sir Bel's thread for more info.

And do not pick a paladin as a spokesman if you want loot and rewards. You DO want loot and rewards.

@Rekiller: You could also choose a bard for scouting, archery, spellcasting and melee. ;) See your thread about bards for more info.  j/k

I'd say the basic party recipe works excellently for someone new to IWD2.

    Human Fighter
    Dwarven or HalfOrcish Barbarian
    Aasimar Sorcerer
    Tiefling Wizard
    Aasimar Cleric
    Halfling Rogue/Ranger
